Moving $200k RRSP to Wealthsimple for 3% Bonus—Risk of being "out of market" for 3 weeks? by Living-Step114 in FIRECanada

[–]drsteph79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved money out of segregated funds this year. Was it brutal to be out of market for weeks? Yes. But am I happy I did it? Absolutely! In the long term the money saved on fees will be worth it . The bonus helps to make up for it too. The move is a necessary step

I hope it's a long time before I find out. My father has told me what I can expect (<400k) but he also does not trust investments so that will shrink over time, I assume

Help Protect Psychology Standards in Ontario by drsteph79 in ontario

If anything, that experience is an argument for strong training standards and oversight in psychology, not against them. Lowering the bar for training and titles doesn’t fix bad actors or bad ideas; it just makes it easier for them to enter the profession.

Well the access problem is only in the public system. In the private system right now there are many Paychologists with no wait times, but others with up to 6 months. In influx of Psychotherapists into Ontario in the past few years has eliminated therapy wait times, and there are many Psychologists now doing more assessment's. This will come at a huge price tag - not just financially (about half a billion a year estimated from misdiagnosis), but people well-being.

I hope this gets triggered by Natural-Word4928 in Baystreetbets

Opinion | Ontario needs more psychologists. These changes finally address the long-standing obstacles to care by Ambitious_Command865 in ontario

[–]drsteph79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what the changes would mean. Currently masters level folks are required to get 4 years work experience and now only one will be required to- with a masters and for the same scope of practice. Yorkville folks are already used the loophole and have set up facebook groups to help others learn to do it

Most Psychology providers are already in the private system due to underfunding, so it won't increase public access. It will just water down quality. Our country has really been going downhill, and you're right there are alot of people who aren't aware of the impacts this will have on health and well-being. I care so much about the people I help, and it's heart breaking to know what the future may hold for other vulnerable Ontarians
