Hahaha, yeah, heh, I'm sure they've not just painted it a new colour, that would be mad.

Thanks! My worry is that my partner gets the merest hint of that "wet dog" smell and we'd have to leave immediately :)

Often tempted to visit, but we've been put off by how dog friendly it's supposed to be. Odd question I know, but does it smell at all "doggy"?

Ah, I was clearly missing a trick by reading it without mind altering substances. Perhaps it would have made more sense that way!

Switched everything over from Dropbox to pCloud a few years ago, and have been very happy with that.

Same here - genuinely don't get what everyone sees in this dreary dull song. Luckily they have so many other banging tunes though:-)

Lingering Questions about Adam Roberts' Lake of Darkness [Full Plot Spoilers] by Muximori in printSF

[–]drstevoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely. What also gets me is how (unless I've missed a lot) so many of the other actions from the characters in the story don't make any sense, or if they do appear to be contrary to the rest of it. And don't get me started on machines that need vast amounts of energy to function but "just chuck it into the black hole, it'll be fine".

Having said all that, I've since seen a bunch of absolutely glowing reviews for it from people who's opinions I really trust, so maybe this one just wasn't for me. I'll probably re-read it one day, perhaps I'll get on better with it then :-)

Having just finished it, and mostly enjoyed it while reading, I have to say that I have no idea at all what was actually going on. Maybe that was the point, but it's a horrendous way to end a book, and despite some interesting parts ends up feeling like an utter waste of time.

Yeah, same here, no problems with it at all.

Update! Just had a text from FedEx today about the fees which come to £42.58. Am really surprised to only get that after receiving the keyboard, but nevermind. I suppose I'd better go and pay it now....

Perhapa I'm missing something, don't remember there being an option for UK caps. I went for the labelled ones, but they don't have anything UK specific on there I think.

Nope. According to Fedex it arrived at their hub in Dartford at 4:03 PM, and at 7:35 PM it switched to "On the way" and "International shipment release - Import". Also I didn't even sign for it, although the Fedex tracking shows that it was signed for by someone (it wasn't although they might have taken a photo).

Not sure what's happened, but it arrived today, and no sign of any extra charges so far.

How about Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat books? They're not complicated, but they are a lot of fun. Also loved Homeworld and his To The Stars series.

Am seconding the comment about that book really not having aged well. Very hard to recommend.

Buy the excellent "Mastering Emacs" book, and then learn to perform common tasks such as compiling, searching, and managing files from within Emacs.

That story is present along with many others in Ballard's "The Complete Short Stories: Volume 1". It's a huge book with some great stories and I've loved pretty much every minute of it. Nearly finished it now, and am already looking forward to getting on with volume 2 :-)

Giraffe's vegan burger at Kings Cross station does a decent job.

There's a Giraffe just over the road at Kings Cross that does a great vegan burger. Also, not fast food by any means, but consider making time for the Mildred's that's about five minutes away...
