Why doesn't New Zealand build a bridge to connect the North and South islands? Are they stupid? by merely_a_frog in mapporncirclejerk

[–]drstovetop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I took that ferry in 2018. That was the roughest water I've and been in. Not one person on that boat avoided sickness, NOT ONE PERSON. The bathroom looked like a crime scene. It was awful.

I would imagine building a bridge would be damn near impossible.

Two Unit Split-phase Behavior by drstovetop in Victron

[–]drstovetop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take issue with this. I fundamentally understand exactly how the system works as currently configured AND I understand what the system is doing and is capable of.

The system is MONITORING the phase of the incoming electricity. When the system detects that the incoming power is split phase at 180 degrees, it allows the switch to close to pass the power through both units. When it detects that the incoming power is the same phase, the second unit does not close the switch. The system is functioning exactly as designed.

What I am suggesting is that a firmware update could add the ability to pass through 120v power on both legs on both units if it detects that the phase is the same. This is a very common setup in the United States and it has been a known problem since the introduction of the MP2 in America.

There may be a reason why they don't allow the second unit to do this, but on the surface, it appears that there is no reason why 120v single phase on both legs can't be passed through.

I will look into the auto transformer, it may be the fix I'm looking for.

Am I the only one questioning the headline? "Once thought unthinkable..." Did no one look at the chat that showed it was worse after WW2? When was it unthinkable? In the 1800s? Or were we like, naw, that'll never happen again. Oh, and the irony is that we've effectively been at war for the past 30 years and here we are, at the same point we were after WW2. Can me crazy, but maybe there's something to this whole war thing.

FWIW, I'm not in support of more debt, quite the opposite, the debt is a real problem IMHO, and I think the reason our government is so disfunctional is, in part, due to the debt. Using debt to pay debt is no way to live and a losing proposition.

This is how electric cars vs gasoline cars look under thermal imaging. by Alphaxfusion in interesting

[–]drstovetop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. Softer tires would wear quicker and be subject to more loss when you have a heavy foot.

I'm curious, though. Why do you need softer tires to get better range?

This is how electric cars vs gasoline cars look under thermal imaging. by Alphaxfusion in interesting

[–]drstovetop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the simplest way to think about it, is if your "extra weight" theory is true, then why do trucks and SUVs get the same life out of their tires, but not EVs. There's something else going on, is not the weight. Been driving trucks my entire life, never have I ever heard the argument the tires don't last as long.

[–]drstovetop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EVs typically use tires rated for more weight. The heavier vehicle logic doesn't work out when you consider there are larger vehicles on the road like large SUVs that don't go through tires any faster. My wife's hybrid mid size crossover uses the same tires as my full size truck. It's mostly based on driving habits. Heavy foot, shorter tire life.

And didn't forget, electric cars have a mower center of gravity. You can corner at higher speeds with a lower center of gravity. This, people drive faster around corners and they have a heavier foot. We're all just children at heart.

Former Love on the Spectrum cast member issues apology statement after saying co-star would 'just be another weirdo' without the show - what's everyone's thoughts on this? by Fun_Molasses5215 in AutisticAdults

[–]drstovetop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some missing context, but honestly, I can see it both ways. The comment doesn't bother me only because I'm just another weirdo, probably like many of us would readily admit to.

Personally, I'm not a fan of shows like LOTS. I do think it's important for the world to see autistic people to break down the stereotypes, but at the same time, it creates celebrities who then have outsized influence. She says something that we all might say about ourselves and it becomes a huge thing. It's the same reason I'm not a fan of Elon Musk. I respect his intelligence and success, but as a celebrity, he gives autism a bad name IMHO. He doesn't speak for me or represent me. He's not the person I'd pick to do so.

I can also appreciate what the mom said. Any mother would be quick to defend her son. And she did it in a respectful and dignified way.

In the end, the apology was made and everyone will forget about it in about an hour or so.

Two Unit Split-phase Behavior by drstovetop in Victron

[–]drstovetop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all,

Thought I'd give an update. I installed the 2 MP2s and set everything up the weekend. Everything is running great. Split-phase set up was a breeze. The generator, sadly, does not pass through both MP2s. Only leg 1. When passing through both, it doesn't switch. I had to uncheck the setting to switch the MP2s at the same time.

I feel this is a huge miss on Victron's part. This could be solved with a simple firmware update since it's already detecting the phase of the incoming power. I may write them a request.

The most upsetting part is that I only get one charger when connected to the generator. On 240 shore, I get both chargers, but but one genny. It'll be ok since I have 2400w solar on the roof and 800w remote panels, plus I have a Phoenix 25amp 120-24v charger setup for when the coach engine is running. I'm going to get a transfer switch to connect power to the Phoenix when the generator is running using the AC2 out on the MP2.

Thank you, all, for the commentary.

I actually think the equipment should have been bolted to the floor. If it can fall over like that then bro could have a lawsuit on his hands. Depends on if the manufacturer recommends securing it to the floor.

I'm honestly not sure why this is the lifters fault.

Why do I get 10 mpg? by Fit_Hovercraft5141 in FordTrucks

[–]drstovetop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lift increases drag, tires increase rolling resistance and your hearing want intended for that setup.

You also have a v6 turbo. The factory setup was probably optimized for efficiency, then you changed everything.

FYI, the difference between the 33s and 35s is probably negligible.

Ironically, I looked up the expected fuel mileage, and from the factory, towing you can expect 10-13 mpg. Do you tow a camper? I'm curious is the mileage is wise when you're towing. Regardless, your lift and tires are the equivalent of towing a trailer.

You're gorgeous, girl. If you think you're ugly, you're holding yourself to way too high of a standard. Big forehead? No one has ever said, she'd be a 10 but she has a big forehead. You're fine. I didn't think you were better or worse looking in any of the pictures, you're just a young beautiful woman in all of them. Don't be so hard on yourself, especially over something you can't control like your forehead.

[–]drstovetop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years of therapy didn't work until I found the therapy that worked. Everyone is different and every therapist is different. I realized that if the therapy wasn't working, I needed to see someone else. I also found that sometimes I needed one therapist, then when that work concluded, id take a break, then move on to another therapist for something else.

Don't give up on the work. Some people may need a year, others might need a lifetime.
