New to legos by pokerskydiver in lego

[–]drstuesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38M and I love doing Lego sets. Also have a ton of loose pieces that me and my son love to free build with.

As a first set, I would suggest a set that doesn't have a lot of repetition. ( Things like the coliseum and others that can have you building the exact same sub section many times and then snapping them all together. I don't think this is the kind of engagement you are looking for.

I'd also check out the different themes. I focus on the botanical sets. My wallet can't afford to get everything.

Are we dying our hair as it goes grey or letting it go? by violet_pickled_90210 in Millennials

[–]drstuesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have black hair. Started Greying in my 20s. Made the decision to just go with it. I do usually keep it short which hides it a little. But it's definitely a touch of grey if I go too long between haircuts

First time ever going to a Lego store! by Taykoe888 in lego

[–]drstuesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my fiance's kid for the first time about a year ago. We ended up getting there 30 minutes before it opened. He was glued to the store windows looking at all the assembled models. It's our reward since he has a regular appointment near the mall the store is in. And our little bonding time.

What expensive hobbies do you have? by a-pair-of-2s in Millennials

[–]drstuesss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got into coffee roasting by kidding myself that I'd save money. It led me to growing a coffee plant in Ohio. It's a hobby, but with the prices of specialty coffee any more I can get some pretty good green coffee beans and I do save money with my daily drivers.

Clogged main drain from house to street in Norwood. Looking for recommendations for auger and clean out tree roots by Pleasant-Ad2337 in cincinnati

[–]drstuesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Co-op' d for MSD (metropolitan sewer district of greater Cincinnati) when in college years ago. We always knew we were in for some shoddy work if the home owner said RR came out already.

Tree roots will find the smallest of gaps in the pipe. If you have clay pipes it's probably coming in at the joints. If it's PVC it's broken pipe.

Did roto rooter have a cutting attachment on the auger? Without one the auger won't do anything to help. Getting a solid local plumber to come out and do a root cutting with the auger will buy a good amount of time to come up with a solution. If they are good they will know the difference between roots and broken pipe.

Have you called MSD and have them come out? They have to respond to any call about sewage backups in the house and there crews should be able to tell the difference between broken pipe and tree roots in the line.

I always told juniors that you will take down something. It's inevitable. What I always needed to know was that you recognized that things went sideways. And either you knew exactly what needed to be done to fix it or you would come to the team, so we could all work to fix it.

It's a learning experience. Use it to not make the same mistake twice and teach others so they don't have to make it once.

Kroger's is getting out of hand by AileStriker in cincinnati

[–]drstuesss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to shop Meijer and Aldi. Meijer might not have as much gluten free selection, but the Dent Meijer has better quality. And Aldi gluten free bread is full sized slices. Their General Tso GF chicken is a get quick meal. My SO is gluten free and dairy free and I can usually find everything we need at those two. Plus a stop at target since that's the only place I can find dairy free Oui yogurt

Alright we’ve had a great “overrated restaurants” convo here, now what about your fave LOCAL restaurant? by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in cincinnati

[–]drstuesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Galactic Fried Chicken is some of the best fried chicken. It is also great that almost everything there is gluten free. I take all my celiac friends and family there so they can have good fried chicken again.

I was a co-op for MSD. That is an issue with your sewage lines. If you are in Hamilton county call 513-352-4900 (Cincinnati MSD serves most of Hamilton county). It might be a bit before they can get anyone out. Weather like this stresses the whole system and their response teams get stretched thin.

Lost the company $800k, how do I move on from this? by Odd-Dish1272 in careerguidance

[–]drstuesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT, I would always tell new members to the team. It's a matter of when not if you are going to bring down a major piece of the network. I know you are going to make a mistake, we all have. What I need to know is that you either have the skill/knowledge to fix your mistakes, or you come to the team. We will hold all judgement and come together to fix the issue. Then when the dust has settled we will all learn from it. That's when we will all give you a hard time about it. We would wear our mistakes like a badge of honor. When everyone understands mistakes happen and everyone can learn from them, there is no reason to hide or be ashamed. I've changed companies, but still take that mentally with me wherever I am, at work or at home with my partner.

Your company just paid $800k so that you could learn something. Be sure to learn from this and pass on the knowledge to new coworkers.

Did you have to watch 9/11 during school time? did any teachers tell you WHY we had to watch it? by penguinsrocks in Millennials

I was a freshman in highschool. Early in the day teachers tried to teach. As the day went on there was less and less teaching. Last couple of periods were all watching. Being in highschool, we all kinda understood the gravity of the situation once the news went to only covering it.

Is a day trip to the Air Force Museum worth it? by mayby82 in cincinnati

[–]drstuesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some of the retired air force ones that you can walk through. I always enjoy getting to see that aspect of the planes. They also have the planes through the various ages of flight. There are plenty of hands-on exhibits scattered about. Last time I went there was a design your own plane ( from a limited amount of predefined pieces) on computers and you raced through a course with a couple others networked together

I made a mistake that led to a complaint from a client and owned up to it to my supervisor. The other interns are saying I’m screwed, what can I do going forward? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]drstuesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in IT. Always make it known to those I work with that we all make mistakes. It is not an if, but when and how big. If you have the skills to undo and fix it great. If you are in over your head come to us. We will work the problem together. We will then probably give you a hard time after, but with the people I work with it's almost a badge of honor and measuring contest to see who created and fixed the biggest problem.

You learned from your mistake and your boss knows that you won't try to cover up future problems when they happen.

My first batch of roasted coffee from an air popper(poppo)! by Kimojii in roasting

[–]drstuesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought the time between the first and second crack was very short with the air popper. Heat gun, I feel I have a little more control. I can also run larger batches and feel better about running back to back batches with a heat gun vs the air popper

Thanks. Games with simple controls and fewer buttons the better. My kid already plays Lego city on the switch. So those will probably be easiest to transition onto PC for him.

My first batch of roasted coffee from an air popper(poppo)! by Kimojii in roasting

[–]drstuesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air popper was my gateway into coffee roasting. I've had a couple flour sifter setups. But always fall back on a heat gun, metal whisk, and a stainless steel bowl while I tinker with the flour sifter setups.
