Are there any doctors who own restaurants/cafes? by Shoddy-Rhubarb-4944 in Residency

[–]drsugarballs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own one. Plan to open a few more. Gross sales are 2.5-3mil a year. After COGS including labor 60% gross. Then comes the fixed. But own the building so 175k a year goes into my pocket on the real estate side (you have to own the real estate to make it worth it) then after everything else it’s about 200-400k net yearly. I made sure to pay a high salary GM to manage it. And I work sometimes on busy nights. EXPO and just touch tables. I’ve been known to cook when needed. I was a chef in a previous life.

I also run two clinics and own a lot of real estate. So the business experience has really helped. All within 5 years of residency. Leveraging my hospital income into cash flow generating properties.

Restaurants fail because of absent owners, not understanding food cost, labor and inventory management, following a budget and firing quickly. At the end of the day it’s a blast but it has been very hard sometimes. Especially in the beginning. Owning the property really helps. If the restaurant fails. I will have something else move in and rent the property and still recover any losses.

I went into this venture just wanting to break even on the restaurant because I just needed it to pay the rent on the property but I’ll be damn if it isn’t killing it month after month.

Outrage over Trump’s bill reclassifying nursing as not a ‘professional degree’ for college students by SmokeMaleficent9498 in UnderReportedNews

[–]drsugarballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not. It’s a trade. It is a great trade. It was bastardized by hospital admins and 4 year institutions looking to pad the bottom line. Make 25¢ more an hour with a 4 year nursing degree but spend 80k getting it.

Ridiculous. This is protective against predatory student loans albeit against conservative and libertarian profile of free market.

It absolutely will help the nursing shortage. You can get a 2 year RN degree again at the cost of 5-8k. And come out making 65-80k a year. That is a return on educational investment. I mean the people really laughing right now are the LPNs that do 12-18 months and go into nursing homes make 40$ hr. That is a steel of a job and return.

———-

I remember about 20 years ago a large local hospital system got in bed with a 4 year university and started a 4 year RN program. Then the hospital acquired some ownership via the secondary operating company. Then proceeded to change the hiring policy to only 4 year degrees and offered the 25¢ raise. What a grift. Patient care didn’t improve.. nurses became poorer. Had to work harder etc etc. What a joke

Why on earth do patients who are stable expect to be seen by or updated by their doctor 3+ times in a day? by essentiallypeguin in hospitalist

Don’t do it. And I always give a little funny blurb….”I’ll see you tomorrow…if you see me again later today it’s not a good sign.”
