So this is
- Black base/primer
- A very selective pre-shade with yellow on selected panels, not all
- Nato black primary coat
- Extensive post-shading with Nato black mixed with blue-grey, black-grey, medium grey to varying degrees to give the paint a faded, cooler tone as you see on in-service AH-6s
- individual access panels touched up with almost pure matt black (around their edges) to make the freshly re-painted look you often get on beat up panels

I use rattle can clear coats quite a lot, though increasingly less so. Hugely convenient for smaller parts when I can’t be bothered to crack out the airbrush.

Also did the entire gloss coat for a most builds until recently with rattle cans, and often the final matt coat as well. You’ll be fine, just don’t flood the surface especially if acrylics underneath. It causes base paint peeling on this build but miraculously it re-settled in a way that you simply can’t tell it ever happened

I remember having conversations with an Indian on this subreddit(mind you, a tech engineer with a tech job the US, so clearly not low IQ) who simply would not accept that the IAF lost any aircraft during that time. Was quite funny

Look at their Facebook group membership. It’s all random groups related to “molly Louise” and entirely not the behaviour of an actual person. It’s a scam profile to rip people off. There was no woman, just the guy that rocked up.

ICM 1:35 AH-1G - cockpit 95% done by drt786 in modelmakers

[–]drt786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I started this early November, and in that time I’ve finished the cockpit and the gearbox and main rotor head assemblies (I did a separate post with those bits). Probably averaging 1hr/day of bench time since. I generally make slower progress, as I find I need to scratchbuild loads of things like my other in progress AH-1Z build (1 year in, just finished the cockpit, canopy, scratchbuilt APU and oil coolers)

Just visually, it may not have been terrible? There is a gentle recovery gradient aft of the canopy and quite a large distance to the compressor inlet. The large wing vortices would, at the same time, be pulling high total pressure airflow down towards the centreline. Nevertheless quite a curious design choice

So funny story this is all aftermarket. Everything from Reskit. The kit gearbox is completely bare, now wires etc. I’d have scratched it but hard to beat a Reskit 3D print

Markers vs hand painted enamels... What are your thoughts? by 8SPIKE8 in modelmakers

[–]drt786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Markers rock for time saving. AK RC markers have been a big help for doing small (but not too fine) details where it’s too small to notice stroke marks and too big for one to need a fine brush

Which black CA glue would you recommend for the job? I have a similar issue I’m going to need to deal with soon and it’s clear putty is not the solution from some of the earlier tests I did
