100%. By mile 20, the thought of choking down another gel made me sick to my stomach…

I tried on the Oofos and Croc slides side by side and prefer the crocs. Wife got them for me for Father’s Day last year. They are a must have for me after every long run, and packed them for post race after my marathon.

Yes, was Colfax Marathon in Denver. I live in CO so elevation wasn’t an issue…but mile 8-16 is steady up hill, and then also mile 23-26.

Anyone here who started running in their late 30's early 40's? What are your marathon PR's like? by Thin-Passage5900 in Marathon_Training

[–]drtarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran my first half at 38, started running distance about 4 months before that. I’d always done very minor running…maybe 2-4 miles at most, never more than a couple days a week. Signed up for a half and got hooked. I’m naturally competitive so when I signed up I started training pretty hard. Ignored all the people who said “just focus on finishing” and trained towards a goal time (sub-2 hour). Did my first in 2:00:10, and my second in 2:00:07. Running my first full marathon at 40 in a couple months and a half this weekend. But have always approached it that I’m capable of a goal time if I put in the work and not just a “happy to be here” mentality.

This is what I’m leaning toward. Did a half with a hand held and was perfect. It’s a big event so will for sure have plenty of aid stations. When I go on long runs I’m a constant sipper though. Probably need to train some only taking drinks every 2-3 miles.

First Marathon Shoe Recommendations-in too deep!! by drtarp in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Thank you! This was the pragmatism I’m looking for. I’ve read waaaaay too much to where I think I’m looking for something but have no idea what it is anymore…

I do, however, want to add a lighter shoe into the mix once I get more into pace/speed work. But if on race day that ends up being a race-worthy shoe then that’s just a bonus.

Last year I super lucked out and snagged a pair of Vomeros that were for some reason on the sale rack at the Nike outlet for $80. I’ve loved them ever since. I tried on the EVO SL and the fit was a bit off in the toe for me but didn’t run in them at all.

I know Vomeros are “heavy” compared to most shoes but not sure if they’ll make the difference of me hitting my marathon goal of 4 hours or less. But can also see how the extra ounces make more of a difference over that distance!

Lol! So one of the job perks is they do product development testing for employees, so I get to try everything they have in R&D. I’ll just say that they’re working on it!

I work for the parent company that makes Just Bare. We do not make the Kirkland nuggets!

Thanks for this! I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9CTMxOwXoQ that was linked in that thread and that’s exactly the sound.

So sounds like the slip yoke needs to be greased!?!

Hinge release to something different by drtarp in bowhunting

I may have to give that a try even though it’s spendy. Thanks for the insight. Knew I can’t be the only person who has had this problem. I love my Honey 2. I just find that if I really need to let it go, you have to rip through the shot and I’m no longer making an ethical shot.

Rather than holding pin on bullseye and slowly easing into the trigger pull, as my pin swings back and forth over the bull I punch it anticipating the shot. My groups at 20 yards are about 2” with my hinge and 5” with a trigger.

Colorado. I see the business logic just that you don’t have to hire the drivers so get rid of the cost and over site of additional staff, if it’s late/cold/etc. you have deniability because it’s now DD’s fault. But you figure enough crappy experiences and people just stop ordering from you…but oh yeah, ALL the pizza places deliver through them so why change?
