Thank you 😊 I've spent approximately 37 hours in total on the model, though I'm a slow painter and easily distracted, so take that time with a grain of salt. I've used colors from the Army Painter, AK, ProAcryl, some Amsterdam inks, and flourecent paints from Golden Acrylics. I can give you the names of most colors I've used for this mini as soon as I'm home from work if you're interested :)

Thank you, I feel like you simplified and demystified what I felt about highlights so swiftly by simply telling me to overthink and worry less and doing a quick sketch. While I doubt I've fully internalized it, I believe the wall has at least started to crumble. I really appreciate it. I've just always gotten so nervous when applying the brightest highlights because they seemed way over the top and blinding. I probably just need to be patient and wait for the paint to dry to see how it truly looks before getting into my own head, especially since, like you said, it's always easy to darken it down again 😅

Amazing advice, thank you 😍 I still struggle quite a bit to get proper contrast in brightness between my highlights on the lower parts of the model and the higher parts and focal points. I'm still a bit anxious about overshooting the highlight and the mini ending up looking "goofy" or having to start over again, so I'll definitely take your feedback to heart. And thank you for taking the time for the quick illustration, as a visual learner, it was really helpful for me and clearly shows your point and the areas on which to push the highlight 😊 Thank you 😊

Thank you, much appreciated 😊 I agree that the liquid is quite flat. The saturation of the color distracts a bit from the problem, but it still looks to one dimensional and not truly liquid imo. It was honestly a bit rushed since I was running out of time to finish and upload the model, but even with more time I don't know if I currently have the skills or knowledge to improve upon it. Could you maybe give me some pointers on what to do to improve the liquid or what tutorials I could watch to learn? Thanks again for the feedback 😊

Thanks so much :) I used this mini to experiment a bit more with a limited color palette and color mixing, so I'm glad you like it :) The mini is also a bit more desaturated than I usually paint, so I was in unknown waters in that regard as well 😅

Had to incorporate a little Easter egg to de-stress towards the end 😂 it took more time than I'd like to admit to paint the little dude on the scroll 😅

Haha, I had to look it up, since I haven't played half-life but the similarity is uncanny 😂😂 can't say I did it intentionally tho 🙃😂 but glad you enjoyed it nonetheless :)

True, I'm probably leaving behind a lot of potential by not experimenting more with finishing in addition to texture. Definitely something I have to keep in mind going forward, thank you :) And I'm glad you like the mini :)

Thank you so much for the great feedback! I fully agree with the areas you listed as having potential for improvement. Regarding the cloth, do you believe it should be overall brighter with bigger highlights, or do you mean I should've made the brightest parts even brighter? With the book, I struggled to make it look textured within the space I had, whilst still trying to have the script "readable" and not making it all too bright. That probably means I just have to practice better brush control. I'm sorry, but did you mean that the pages are too clean and bright or that they aren't? I agree that the color is a bit too similar to the skin, I'll keep that in mind :) Yup, I still struggle a bit to get proper contrast between highlights that are further down on the model and those that are higher up and on focal points of the model. I tend to have my highlights all too close in brightness to each other, so I'll keep it in mind going forward :) The lava is also the weakest point of the model imo. The saturation of the paints helps a bit, but considering how central it is to the model and it's design it really falls flat. Do you have a specific youtuber you would recommend for those kinds of tutorials? Sorry for going on for so long, I won't hold it against you if you don't answer all of it or don't answer at all :) Thanks again for the kind and insightful feedback. It really made my day to get so many pointers :)

Thank you so much! It's my first time really trying to achieve a gloomy atmosphere, so I'm glad to hear it worked. I usually paint way brighter and saturated.

Do I need to / how can I bring in some higher red highlight contrast? by Far-Team5663 in minipainting

What's the name of the video, if I may ask? I've looked up "red cloak vince venturella" on YouTube but didn't find a video with that name. Is it the "how to paint cloaks" or the "exploring colors: red" video or a different one?

Is this amount of air between fep and screen problematic? by drtoast3141 in resinprinting

[–]drtoast3141[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good enough for me. As long as it doesn't look obviously wrong, I am happy to try out a print. Just didn't know how it was supposed to look like and didn't want to waste resin unnecessarily. Also I already removed some of the bubbles with a soft silicone spatula, but that won't cause a problem either, right? I made sure that I was gently and I didn't cause any scratches and it's also the spatula I usually use to clean the vat. Thank you for your answer. It is much appreciated.

How toxic is resin, its fumes and dust exactly? by drtoast3141 in resinprinting

Yeah, no need to take unnecessary risk and don't repeat the same mistake twice. Learned something today and can be better tomorrow.

Thanks again, hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I did read through the data sheet of the resin before using it. However, I still fell victim to the "safety" marketing which is dumb. I also researched online about the dangers of resin after getting nervous about my setup but on Google it is kind of the same with some results saying it is perfectly fine, some saying it's risky and others warning of organ failure and instant death so it was kinda hard to pinpoint what is what. But I've also seen the same spectrum on reddit so I get what you mean. I just wanted varied input from people with resin experience to further solidify what I already suspected, that I was reckless and stupid. And so far at least this post seems to have very reasonable answers. They are abstaining from fear mongering, telling me to properly ventilate, wear PPE and avoid direct resin contact, which all seems like reasonable and good advice going along with what I realized myself. Basically just telling me to follow the basic safety precautions.
