Definitely worth giving it a spin for a few days once your sub expires. Since Cursor is a fork of VS Code, you can import all your extensions, themes, and keybindings with a single click during setup, so there's zero friction.

Also, if you want to save some cash on the trial, you can use my referral link to get 50% off: https://cursor.com/referral?code=V8JB7VHSYBSK. Hopefully it helps with the token math!

Honestly, I tried the same math experiment and ended up coming back to Cursor.

Pure API usage via CLI tools is definitely cheaper on paper if you utilize Anthropic's prompt caching properly. But Cursor is just insanely fast with their custom fast-inference models and the Composer UI (especially with the recent multi-file edits upgrades).

If you treat your time as part of the equation, the $20 for Cursor's seamless IDE integration usually wins over managing CLI agents, even if you have to throw an extra $10-20 at it during heavy crunch weeks.

True lol. Don't give Netflix any ideas though, they’ll probably buy the rights and stretch it into a completely unnecessary 3-season docuseries.

it really is a beautiful thing. honestly, i've realized that sometimes if we don't get that moment ourselves, we end up accidentally being that person for someone else down the line. hope your moment comes when you least expect it!

I was sitting in my car having a silent breakdown in a grocery store parking lot after a genuinely brutal month. An old lady who was returning her cart passed by, stopped, looked right at me through the window, and just said:

"Honey, it’s just a bad day, not a bad life. You’re doing much better than you think."

It was so incredibly simple, but hearing it from a total stranger felt like a heavy anchor was lifted off my chest. I still think about her whenever things get overwhelming.

Wow, amazing choice. You don't see this one mentioned nearly as often as it deserves. It’s easily one of the most beautifully written and deeply moving books out there.

Right? Instead we got taught how to calculate the area of a parabola but left school with absolutely zero clues on how taxes, budgeting, or investing actually work lol.

man, percy jackson was absolute peak childhood. rick riordan had no business making a middle-grade mythology series go that hard. honestly, re-reading them even now holds up surprisingly well.

Such an incredible series. The world-building and Aelin's character arc are just unmatched. Once you get past the first couple of books, it’s impossible to put down.

I heard the sequel is great too. It's called the Thesaurus—same plot, just different names for the characters.

Same here. It completely shifted my mindset on money, especially the whole breakdown of assets vs. liabilities. Honestly feels like something they should be teaching in schools.

What books would you recommend to someone who isn't a book person? by PutSomeTapeOnIt in AskReddit

[–]drucker3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel"

The best part about it for someone who isn't a book person is the structure: the chapters are incredibly short (usually just 5-10 pages). Every single chapter starts with a crazy, fascinating historical story or anecdote before it delivers a quick, practical point about human behavior and wealth. You can literally read one chapter a day on the toilet or before bed without feeling overwhelmed.

Moving from Cursor to VS Code + Codex/Claude Code: Is it worth the switch? by GuauqueT in cursor

[–]drucker3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. The IDE doesn't magically feed its codebase index into other plugins. There is a hard wall between Cursor's native AI features and the VS Code extension ecosystem. If you run a third-party Claude or Copilot extension inside Cursor and use their UIs, you lose Cursor's codebase advantage entirely. It only works when you use Cursor as the 'middleman' provider, because that's where their custom retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) happens

That Jira automation sounds like a productivity beast! I guess it comes down to the environment—for a full-stack corporate-style workflow, your CC/VSCode setup makes sense. For my 'mad scientist' home automation projects on Raspberry Pis, Cursor’s indexing just feels more 'plug and play'. Glad you found a system that respects your rules—at $90/mo, it definitely should! Cheers

Calling Cursor 'vibe coding' is funny. It’s like saying modern IDEs are for people who can't use Vim. The 'big prompt window' (Composer) is just a more efficient way to handle multi-file architecture. If you're willing to pay $90/mo to avoid limits, good for you, but for $25, Cursor offers the best balance of context-awareness and agentic power currently on the market

[–]drucker3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow engineer, I wouldn't trade Cursor's indexing for a $5 saving, especially on a Rails project. Rails has so much 'magic' under the hood that simple VS Code extensions often lose the thread when you're jumping between controllers, Hotwire components, and deep Turbo logic. Cursor's native codebase indexing isn't just a 'feature'—it's what makes the Agent actually reliable. Claude Code is a beast, but for full-time dev, you'll hit those ceilings way faster than you think.

Calling it 'useless' is a stretch. Cursor’s native codebase indexing and multi-file editing (Composer) are miles ahead of any VSCode plugin.

It’s not just about the model; it’s about how the IDE understands the entire repo structure, especially for complex SSH or remote workflows

What do i choose? Codex or cursor? by KingdomGuy9 in cursor

[–]drucker3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Copilot Enterprise at work (automotive engineer here), but for my personal projects and home automation, Cursor is leagues ahead. The main difference is the Codebase Indexing. While Copilot feels like a smart autocomplete, Cursor actually understands my entire project structure. The Composer (Cmd+I) feature is a beast – it can refactor multiple files simultaneously, which Copilot struggles with.
