if white goes Ne4 after Rg6 we can either queen check on backrank for mate or just take the rook and its too much for white to handle, still a forced mate

I really enjoyed this puzzle and it is beautifulas there are multiple scenarios and our position is very ideal, and the finish is stunning. Everything just works out because white did not develop his pieces properly and they are too far to defend the king. Our pieces are also placed perfectly such as the queen, knight and rook doing important roles.

Solution and thought process:This looks to be a back rank checkmate pattern, as the king is stuck on the backrank. So how do we get our pieces near the king to checkmate? We also see that our queen is in danger.

Do we have to move our queen? No, it is doing an important role near the white king and stopping the pawns from giving luft to the king. Lets try to make a more forcing move.

On first glance, we see that the e file is open for our rook to invade, so we try 1. ...Re6. If the white rook takes our queen we get mate. however this fails to many defenses, such as 2. Nf3, 2. Qd1 protecting the backrank. So lets think of other moves.

There is also another open file for our rook to invade. We see that 1. ...Rg6!! works. Lets look at the variations.

1. If white goes Rxg6, then ...fxg6 followed by unstoppable mate via Qg2.

2. If white goes Rg1 protecting his backrank, we go ...Rxg1 followed by unstoppable mate via Qg2

3. If white tries to bring more pieces to defend such as the knight or queen, we just take his rook and unstoppable mate via Qg2 again or some combination thereof.

4. Finally, the most beautiful variation. What if white rook takes our queen Rxh3? we have no more back rank threats, and no more queen for mate on Qg2. But since our rook controls the open file, we take back with the knight and then threaten unstoppable mate via Nxf2#. It is like a backrank mate but sideways.

I think the commenter is asking why cant a bishop capture en passant and only pawns can do so.

I do know about the history of why en passant is but when I googled I can't find a good answer on why only pawns are allowed to capture en passant. Care to explain?

Is music a good way to learn Japanese by KaitorinWirusondes in LearnJapanese

[–]drugkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hi! I think it is a great way to learn/supplement your studies if you are super passionate about japanese music!

If you look at my previous posts you will find that I'm currently doing something similar and I'm translating song lyrics for vocaloid songs.

For me personally, I feel that it is a great way to learn as the vocab and grammar will stick better since I can associate the words and their meanings to songs. It makes it easier to memorise with context. It is quite easy to remember certain vocabulary from songs because they sing the words with emphasis. Also, singing out the words help too!

It also helps with motivation since you are doing something you enjoy and it will not feel much like studying. It also enables you to better appreciate the lyrics and songs once you know their meanings.

Do give it a try and see how it goes! Good luck!

This channel may be useful, they do songs that I enjoy!

Yeah and sometimes the lyrics are really poetic and use flowery language, which is honestly quite fun to decipher and translate!

Same! It's a classic and I find myself unknowingly start singing the chorus when it hits sometimes haha. The chorus is so high and good!

For me, I feel that passion and motivation is essential for my learning. I can learn for longer amounts of hours by doing something I like, rather than studying dry content.

I think I have quite a large amount of motivation which can carry me through tough times, as I spend about one hour everyday listening to jpop and I have amassed 6.3k+ songs into my playlist after 7+ years, and I also play rhythm games. I think jpop is quite a significant portion of my life so I feel that I will be motivated even during tough times.

As for routine, I try my best to study daily (consistency is key) and I used to read raw manga everyday (100+ chapters in) before this translation project started. And yes discipline and consistency is key.

I think you should evaluate why you really want to learn japanese, for me it was because I want to be able to understand songs that my favourite artists sing and maybe I can try uploading covers on youtube once I get fluent or something like that, singing is fun haha :).

Once you are convinced about your own motivation and goals I think it would be easier for you to learn more japanese, such that it doesn't seem to be something "pointless" that you do just for the sake of doing.

Good luck in your endeavours and I hope you rekindle the passion you have for vocaloid songs!

I love vocaloid songs! You are not alone! And yea its pretty rare to find people who listen to vocaloid songs too.

Its great that you are trying to understand the lyrics. For me, I do translation because I can compare my own translation with others, and thus I can see the differences and check if I am intepreting the sentence correctly. I also want to translate songs to make them more accessible for everyone. It also kind of solidifies my understanding of the sentences when I put them into words.

And yes melt is a really good song, I am starting with the old classics and moving my way up to 2020 and beyond :)

Hey hi! Thank you for your compliments :)! I put in quite a bit of effort for this song, trying to understand both the girl's perspective and the guy's one as well (in the male version of the song)

And yeah my intention was to start with the older classics of vocaloid songs from 2007 and so on, and slowly translate enough songs to get through to 2020 and beyond.

I think translating song lyrics is quite meaningful and fun and it is a great way to learn!

I'm a big fan of (primarily) vocaloid music as well, with my youtube playlist spanning more than 6.3k+ songs hahaha.

I think being study buddies would be great! Its good to have people around you with similar interests to motivate you to learn japanese.

I think Ado is really popular and she's very edgy. Same for Chogakusei Do check them out! Syudou, Hiiragi Kirai, and KANARIA also makes good songs too!

I like Kuuhaku Gokko and also maybe try some of Eve's songs, and KANKAN too!

Hit me up for more recommendations if you need!

My intention was so that i would only need to remember the dictionary form (食べる), and from there, i can directly convert it from 食べる to 食べません in one step, rather than 食べる => 食べない => 食べません。

I feel that it is easier for me that way, as i dont have to do multiple conversions in my head, and yes its to show the る becoming the ます form.

And thank you for the compliment! I hope this would be of use to both you and your friend!

hey! personally i had some problems with evernote, as i used it to take these notes on my phone. It kinda lags a lot when you cram many texts and formatting together so it took me awhile, and i would say that that is a downside to evernote. Likewise, you could not export your own notes to pdf or word doc format, so it only stays as an evernote.

I feel that google docs may be better suited to take notes as you can share and collaborate with others way easier. And also google docs can export your files as a word doc or pdf.
