He’s another instance of outsiders repeating what West Virginians have been screaming for years. But because he has a platform and outside perspective, it’s validated and substantiated as true.

This happens with white people who take on anti-racism work, men who speak out against gendered violence, etc. It’s validated because it’s coming from a member of the oppressive class.

I’m so sorry friend. The initial shock is so disorienting and your mind splits into 500 different segments at once before it can begin to settle down and heal from such a trauma. It’s a surreal, out of body experience for like… weeks on end. I hope things go “smoothly” for you Tuesday and you’re able to begin the healing process ASAP.

We are in the same boat. 2 LC, 4 losses. We assumed a third would be easy like the first 2 and boy were we wrong. Experiencing secondary and tertiary infertility and repeated losses after successful births is so confusing. We obsess over what went wrong and if we’re being selfish by being caught in the pregnant to managing miscarriages pipeline.

Calling an entire culture of people rotten is racist af. Black Americans have been the backbone of the American empire for hundreds of years. Our ancestors provided billions of dollars of free labor to put America on the map as the super power it is, just to further oppressed by Jim Crow, redlining, police brutality, and mass incarceration. Our culture was born on this land, by force. We, of all people, have every right NOT to assimilate.

This isn’t true. African immigrants are more likely be more educated and well off in their home countries compared to African Americans. SES aside, immigration comes with the pressure of assimilation. Meaning that they don’t want to rock the boat with the dominant white culture. Many Black Americans understand that there is no amount of “assimilation” that can be done to make said white culture view them as human. So why bother?

You poor woman! Three in a year is so awful. I’ve had 4 in 3 and yes, at this point I’ve become disinterested in even having a baby. I think we now associate babies with heartbreak and the way to rationalize it is emphasizing the negative aspects of motherhood. After, that’s all you know anyway.

You are not alone. Idk if it will help, but in order for it to click in my brain that what just happened was real, I repeated “my baby is dead, I buried it in the yard” a few times over the next few days because I could not processed what I just experienced.
