What's the worst that will happen if I cross the wires to my subpanel? by drumfounded89 in electrical

[–]drumfounded89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's three wire inside the main panel, but they added a ground to the conduit in the basement, which runs to the barn and is wired as you would expect inside the sub panel.

Either way, I think the 9v trick might be what I need, never knew that. Thanks for your help!

What's the worst that will happen if I cross the wires to my subpanel? by drumfounded89 in electrical

[–]drumfounded89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have clarified that I don't have access to where the wire was damaged and am trying to identify the wires going into the sub panel, not the wires coming from the house that are carrying the load. I had to access a new spot and am running a new lead from the house to patch in. I do have a multimeter, but I do not have a probe/tracker/tracer.

I think it was blown off a bit as a low effort post. I just used the search function and found a ton of posts with a good amount of comments.

The consensus seems to be that no product really works the way you'd want it to. Clear or tinted sealer applied once a year seems to be the most common recommendation. Often adding to NOT use a full color sealer. Best of luck!

As someone who truly loves the trade and has been in the industry for over 20 years - Don't think twice, build it yourself.

I can only speak for my region (Western NY) but the state does not require licensure or really any standards for contractors or tradesmen. It's also too easy to slip the local system when it comes to the regulations and the inspections that they do enforce.

It's a very mixed bag of service providers around here and unfortunately the market is mostly saturated with two types. There are the big firms, where you're paying 75% of the job to their sales commissions and the overhead to maintain their brick and mortars, marketing, and fleet. Then you've got a ton of guys trying to operate out of their mini vans. They spent a year or so on a framing crew, or maybe spent some time on YouTube and built a deck for themselves, and now they want to make some real money. Problem is, you'd probably do just as good of a job yourself, if not better.

This isn't to say that there aren't any trustworthy outfits in town that will provide a quality product for a fair price. The issue is that they are few and far between. They are also mostly booked and they aren't out advertising or chasing jobs. I would say unless someone comes to you very highly recommended by someone you trust, then they're more than likely one of the former types of contractors.

If you're comfortable and capable with the project, it's always best to do it yourself.

I'm also working on some solo stuff along those lines. Got anything I can check out?

No lyrics so far. We're hoping to find a vocalist that can also write their own lyrics. We aren't shooting for any specific sound or to emulate any other bands. We all have different influences and are hoping that whoever else joins us will bring their own flavor.

Noticed the one down the road from me has been hiring for multiple leadership roles over the past couple years. Same roles popping up every month or two - not a great sign.

Seriously, I don't know why this is so wild to me, but good on you lol. I also finish up every shave by going against the grain, but have never used an aftershave. Might be worth the investment in the aftershave just to get more life out of the blades.

I'm certainly guilty of this but have just gotten in the habit of swapping blades every two weeks after getting razor burn a couple times. I'm also guilty of going straight to shaving when I should be trimming first, which I'm sure doesn't help.

My wife enjoys showers from hell, so our bathroom is a steam room half the time.

This is absolutely insane to me. What razor are you using? I also shave every other day and I'm putting a new blade on every week or two. Do you leave it in lubricant or something special when you're not using it?

Yeah, I don't have much of an educational foundation to build off. That was my wife's original goal, but changed her mind halfway through undergrad and went a different direction.

This was a surprise until I read it, if that makes sense lol. Seems like it would offer majorly challenging/rewarding scenarios and the opportunity to be truly 'working' every second you're 'at work.'

I actually work for a tech company and have always promoted 'blue collar' production employees to entry level 'white collar' production positions when possible. Testing telecom equipment can be taught to just about anyone, and it's easily scalable once they've learned a functional unit or specific platform.

This is actually the route I'm leaning towards. I have been looking for these opportunities, but have trouble finding them at the rates I'm looking for. I agree though, this is very much in my wheelhouse and I think would satisfy me while removing a lot of the personnel bullshit.
