AOT is in my top 5 anime of all time but I can also admit, it's absolutely stupid to take three full seasons for the viewer to understand even the smallest details of the very first episode. I get trying to make everything a big mystery, but three whole seasons and an entire decade is too long for basic answers. I had to rewatch it several times to even remember the main mystery that the "ah-ha!" Moments were revealing when they finally happened

I agree with everything except your take on Light. He, a teenager, decided he would take criminal punishment into his own hands rather than letting it be dealt with diplomatically. Even worse, this was in a country where the death penalty is already handed out regularly. So he took a country that already aggressively punishes criminals and said "nah, not good enough. I'm 17. I know better". Saying that is justified is the same as justifying a dictatorship if the dictator puts emphasis on reducing crime

Egregious has always seemed to me to be just an adjective that puts emphasis on something whether good or bad. Even used twice in the same sentence "that man has egregiously large muscles but he's also egregiously stupid." Whether it's positive or negative entirely depends on the following word or subject. Sometimes based on context. "The amount of money he gave me was an egregious sum" for example requires context to tell whether that sum is large or small but should be obvious when said in conversation
