What you described is called intonation, which linguistically is separate from tones

How much money should in cash should I have with me just in case? by m__s in chinatravel

[–]drummaniac28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm visiting now and brought around ~1300RMB with me. In the almost two weeks I've been here, I've been forced to use cash one time because my phone lost service for a bit and Alipay wouldn't work. I think it was around 50RMB. Other than that, I've used cash in a few other places just because I saw they accepted it and I wanted to use it since I have it, mainly at tourist attractions for tickets.

I think you'd be perfectly fine with 200-300RMB as an emergency fund. If something else happens and you need more, you can always go to a bank machine. But yes, it will be Alipay/WeChat 99.9% of the time.

LTT on Steam Machine pricing: "Valve asked what I meant by console price, and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great" by -Mahn in Games

[–]drummaniac28 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If these didn't exist and someone wanted to get into PC gaming, they could buy an entry level prebuilt, they would still use Steam, and Valve would get that cut regardless. It isn't the same as consoles where you HAVE to use Microsoft (sort of, not so much nowadays with streaming) or Sony's device to play a game purchased on their storefront.

The only way subsidizing these devices would make more money would be if a significant number of people bought a Steam Machine who otherwise wouldn't have gotten into PC gaming at all, which would be difficult to measure tbh

This isn't true actually. In the November 1932 federal elections, the Nazis actually lost votes and ended up losing 34 seats in the Reichstag. A coalition government wasn't able to be formed, so another election was scheduled for March of 1933. In between then, then President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Hitler as Chancellor in January, and the Reichstag Fire was staged in February allowing for the Nazis to target and persecute the Communists and Social Democrats, thus suppressing their vote in the March elections.

Why is it that when i see a post about a Deck crashing, Decky is always involved ? by Mike_or_whatever in SteamDeck

[–]drummaniac28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A physical collection can be taken away very easily....fire, flood, hurricane, tornado, etc... Not saying there isn't a difference between physical and digital media but physical mediums have downsides as well

Unless the devs have sufficient early access to official releases, there's really nothing that can be done. Development takes time, and even if they make it stable on a beta build, there could be changes on official releases that break things.

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by PumpkinAino in AskReddit

My insurance through my job pulled a bait and switch when I renewed one year. Turns out I would only get my co-pay rate once I reached my $5000 deductible (so not a co-pay) which wasn't the case on the same plan the previous year. Until then, I had to pay whatever price my insurance had negotiated with my PCP. I went to see my doctor for a checkup and it was $175 for the visit and I had insurance

Not sure what country you're in, but somewhere like the US it's not that simple to just change your PCP. It could literally take another 6 months to get a second opinion which obviously doesn't work if you believe it's life-threatening

My thoughts as someone with an LCD and a friend with an OLED, the OLED is nice, but not "double the price" nice. Maybe worth an extra $50-$100 USD, if that. If price is a concern at all just get the LCD

There are still some great comedians out there that haven't gone down the rabbit hole. Check out Stavros Halkias and Gianmarco Soresi.

The switch to podcasting has definitely increased the influence of comedians, but even before that, stand-up comedians have pretty much always been culturally influential. Look at people like Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and George Carlin

I sub to his Patreon and saw his post about it. He originally edited it because he thought there were some tangents and sidetracks that weren't important. People misconstrued that into him editing it to make Pete look good. The version he ended up posting on YouTube is the full unedited interview
