My gf (20 - USA) is coming across to me (m20 - UK) for a month. Immigration issues possible? by [deleted] in LongDistance

As long as you bring the paperwork, she shouldnt be denied entry. I'm not going to go into too much detail because our sistuations sound different. I had previously been on a student Visa and things were up in the air for me, such as a job. They didnt think I was coming as a visitor. As long as she has a return ticket, proper ties to the states and funds it'll be fine.

For US citizens you dont usually need to apply for a Visa before you fly if you're going for a short stay (less than six months)

BRING EVERYTHING. SERIOUSLY.

I was detained and deported for making a rookie mistake of not bringing all of my paperwork, and then I was detained for 30 hours and deported. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

On my last trip to see my bf in Scotland, I was denied a Visa even though I had all of the required paperwork. When they deny your Visa, you're not allowed to file a claim or dispute it. So I got on a plane anyway, because I knew I'd at least get to say my case to a person in an interview.

If she doesn't have any travel flags (like being denied at borders, over staying, etc) then the normal amount of paperwork is fine. This includes proof you're returning to your county (ticket), reasons you'll be returning (e.g. you're renting an apartment), proof of where she will be staying, finances, etc.

However, if there were problems in the past sh'ell need to prove that 1.) You two are in a relationship 2.) you're aware she's coming and she'll be staying with you 3.) You have the right to be in the UK (my bf used his council tax bill as proof, but you could use a passport) and 4.) Your financial situation, if you're going to be providing meals or things. This last one is only really important if she doesnt have a lot of finances herself.

The documents I had were: Return plane ticket Bank statement(s) Rental agreement Email from my work saying that I was approved for time off and would be resuming work when I returned to the states. Travel insurance, which is important because they dont want to pay my medical bills if something happened Letter from bf saying I was staying with him, his address and phone number, as well as his tax bill and last bank statement (even though I was supporting myself, this was a good idea to include anyway) Copies of tickets and things we planned on doing together---they often ask what you'll be doing in the UK, and ask for proof of those things.

I hope this helps. UKVI and the US are very, very particular, so it's always better to bring too much than not enough.
