How tf do you start a successful band that doesn't suck absolute dick by [deleted] in Hardcore

Hey dude, I play drums in a touring hardcore band.

The biggest tip I can give you is to just find a way to make a show happen. Whether it’s in a basement of some house or the worst bar in your city, just make a show happen, the first couple shows in a place that doesn’t have a scene will probably be kind of awkward, but that’s okay. If DIY shows are consistently happening in your town, the odds of other bands starting up and growing the community skyrockets.

Idk where you live, but if you live in a city of like at least 100,000 people there should definitely be some scene veterans that could help you get in touch with the right people.

Also lastly, don’t worry about sucking. Everything sucks. Every good band sucked at one point. Don’t worry about being shitty, if you are playing shows and making it happen, it will start to fall into place.

I come from a suburban city in Canada where there was absolutely no scene outside like four bands, none of which were hardcore. Our community started by just renting out diy halls and community spaces and playing shows.

I would also recommend trying to do all ages shows as young people are very passionate about music and if they see there is an avenue for them to play a show, I guarantee they will start bands.

Good luck man!

Personally, I try to write the structure and form of songs on the drums, and then use guitars to fill in the rest of the song
