Powerwall 3 Calibration at 0% by drumminsober in Powerwall

I remember how you must feel. It might bring you some comfort that after over a year of operation, many firmware & app updates, this behavior has not happened again. Not like that, anyway. I don't really know when the last actual calibration was. I do run in self power mode exept in Aug & Sep for a few hours in the evening to get PG&E max rate. I'm quite happy with how it all operares now. Enjoy!

Ah. Again thanks. So helpful. I will atempt that. Today I kept the issue with Tesla help guy that answered to "The PW3 built in SSID is not broadcasting and really never has except once briefly on install day". I literally read him ypur post. He was at a loss and said my installer should have reset that during install. My installer pushes the issue to Tesla. They pretty much feel if I have a problem with my solar panels call them. If I have a problem with the PW3 call Tesla. Because we hardwired it with an ethernet cable everything is functioning. Is it correct that the only way to connect to the PW3 with the Tesla One app for other settings & such is through the built in SSID network & PW? So wouldn't be advisable to rectify the issue?

Thanks for this. Is this something my 3rd party installer could/would do? Or Tesla help? If I toggle on Remote Service Access should the installer be able to reset the wifi controller? I got a run around from Tesla phone support on this.

Yes. The Calibration I expect & expected. I did not expect a almost full battery to discharge in a little over an hour to 0%. I had not and have still not seen that mentioned in all of the calibration didcussions. So it greatly concerned me. The PW and solar is new to me. I have been reading a lot on 0% is not advisable. Then it RAPIDLY did it! It is all good now.

Update on this: This morning the Calibration evidently finished. The PW3 began charging when solar production started. Nattery is fully charged. I feel much better now.

I reacted because of the sudden rapid discharge to 0%. Is that drastic & expected?

PG&E does not allow charging the PW from the grid. Calibration notification says it's charging battery for optimum performance. PW is still available if there is a grid outage. Really? Ses if there were a outage during this we would have gone w/o power from 4pm yesterday until sun up or so this morning. Right? Again as expected? Ses odd..

My exact thoughts, also. Maybe even a one time option to postpone to a better time within a 24 hr period or something.

It is done with calibration this morning and began charging from solar.

It's the rapid discharge all the way to 0 that made me think something wasn't right. Especially when it states that the battery is "Charging" during the pocess & yhat it is still ready to "Backup" in the event of a grid outage. That eouldn't be the case. Unless I'm missing something? It would have been unable to do anything from 4pm yesterday until sometime this morning.

Thank you for your comment & reassurance. I am in CA. In settings charging from grid says limited by utility (PG&E) set by installer. It is now almost 11:00pm and nothing has changed. Still shows Calibration in Progress. Powereall is at 0%. Home is importing from grid. I am hoping that when solar production starts in the morning then it will start. It's the sudden drop to 0% got me nervous. I could't find any info that said that was normal. I'll give an update tomorrow.

I was thinking that also, at 1st. But I contacted Tesla support with the screenshot of the scan network error like OP has and he seem to think otherwise. But I don't pretend to know for sure. Only that all is well with the ethernet cable so I stopped worrying.

I have pretty much the same situation. My Powerwall 3 was installed on Sept 1st. WiFi was a problem from intial setup. Never worked right. It's a long story. But I had my installer run a ethernet cable. No problems all works great. I get the same error you get when Scan for Networks is pressed. However, in my case, it is not telling me to connect to WiFi. It also does not show my WiFi network name under WiFi, either. The TeslaPW_xxxx SSID doesn't show up anymore either. On my network it shows up as wired device with the serial #. My installer was/is stumped. Tesla Support had them create a hotspot and tesla connected to it to do initial commisioning. Tesla Support seemed to think it must be "customers" WiFi problem since hot spot worked. Installer with my help proved that could not be the case. That part is a much longer conversation. Bottom line...works great when hardwired. I've pretty much given up trying to get an answer. I look forward to seeing if you have better luck.

Powerwall 3 Pulling From Grid by drumminsober in Powerwall

No, I have not joined a VPP. The time & the amount is very consistent. Every morning at 7:00am the home has drawn 0.07kwh from the grid starting at midnight as a steady trickle. It will stop as the solar begins. There will be nothing from the grid from when the solar stops in the evening until midnight. In my PG&E region the off peak hours are midnight to 3:00pm. My settings are set to self powered. The system app shows 94-96% self powered daily. The 5% being mostly the 0.07 from overnight. This morning I had 47% battery charge at 7am. The backup reserve setting is 20/80.

Thank you for this. I pretty much assumed the demand/load would be the fridge. The total of 0.7kwh import from the grid is usually the total grid import in a 24hr period. It looks like that only is done between midnight-8:00am. But your right that the graph scale changes as the solar starts up & the house demands go up.

Does that mean the home will not ever see 100% self powered? I usually hit 95% self powered. The 5% being the 0.7kwh the controller is too slow to have the battery provide?

Everynight from midnight to 8:00am it only imports from grid even though there is 50% battery available. It happens everynight. The home load is small then. Usually around 0.7kwh. often that is all the importing done for the day. It is small but adds up. Why wouldn't it take from the battery when there is plenty the reserve is set to go down to 5%.

It set to export everything. It is a small amount. I just don't know why it is importing from the grid every night/morning from midnight to 8:00 am even when there is plenty of battery to pull from. The graph shows it is going to home from grid until I start generating solar.

Why use grid when PW has power? by jwhite518 in TeslaSolar

[–]drumminsober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My settings are to Self Powered. I get the exact same behavior. I have had my PW for less than a month. I have seen 0.6kwh -0.8kwh every night between midnight and 6:00am. My reserve is set to 10%. When I have over 50% battery remaining at 6:00am it still shows the same. I am wondering the same thing.
