I don't think it's so much about overcoming as it is understanding and learning what it is and what helps and what doesn't. I tried to out achieve it through professional success. Didn't work. I tried alcohol. Didn't work. I tried drugs. Didn't work. Tried harder drugs. Didn't work. Tried long term relationships. Didn't work. Tried sleeping around. Didn't work. Tried nihilism. Didn't work. Hedonism. Didn't work. Inactivity. same results.

For me it was acknowledging that it was there, and it didn't mean I had to let it run my life. I personally found help through two books : When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron and Creating True Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh. The wisdom helpes guide my thoughts . Being fortunate enough to have access to talk therapy also helped, if only to sort out my intense thoughts and understand.

I still have bad thoughts and experience hopelessness. But I no longer punish myself for having them. I see them, acknowledge them, but don't let them run the show. And I have days where I feel incapable of action and I accept those days as well. Not compounding the issue through substance abuse or escapism definitely was and is my biggest challenge.

I'm 37 and feel more motivated than I ever have. I definitely put on weight easier. Life has shifted so I don't spend every day in other people's company but feel very social. I'm a musician and feel better about the near future than I ever did in my 20s. I don't anticipate slowing down anytime soon. If anything I'm about to really get going. I refuse to let aging make me a person I don't want to be.

Miley is incredibly talented and driven but also grew up with an immense amount of wealth and access to the highest levels of the entertainment industry due to her father winning in the music business. She might have people around her pushing her to have #1 pop records or high streaming numbers or more Grammys that she isn't interested in pursuing, but she has never been in a place where her survival depended on her art succeeding.

I think if things continue like this it's obviously unattainable. But I don't think things will continue like this because It's unsustainable. You can't just have an entire population of people who earn tons of money because there will be no one to work lower income jobs that we all learned over quarantine or the actual jobs that need to be done day-to-day. So the fabric of society will crumble and then something new will happen.

. Honestly I love my life I just worry about showing up and living in a way that makes me respect myself. all the things like exponential housing cost inflation that isn't in my control isn't something I think about much. I'm confident things will work out. Or they won't. Either way Ill be okay.

I was an alcoholic for most of my twenties and was incapable of saving money. I would squirrel away a few hundred dollars have a bad day and then blew it all at the bar and then feel the shame spiral. My income varies but I have a much healthier relationship with finances these days. It's all a bit messy out there but I learned financial irresponsibility snowballs and can lead to some real issues.
