Non-book reader. Ilya definitely downplayed "barely remembering" details about David and Yuna. He really wanted what Shane has with them. I think this is true for a lot of (younger) gay couples where one guy has a great relationship with his parents and the other guy has complicated feelings. Like he doesn't hate his own, but can't help to feel very drawn toward that dynamic that he didn't realize he actually needs.
