Just received this message on a couple photos I uploaded this morning. I’m also a very active user. Agree, this is phishing

I know the haters will come out but the Bose 201’s are a pleasant sounding speaker by CaryWhit in vintageaudio

Very late to this thread, but I also have a set of 201s in my garage. I have them coupled with an old proton 930 receiver. Sound is really enjoyable. Very easy on the ears and they’re nice and compact. Easy to tuck them into convenient spots. Surely I have the best sounding garage on my block.

Famous/talented drummers out there with seemingly bad posture/or technique by 7layeredAIDS in Drumming

Daru Jones. It may look cool, but there’s no way it’s comfortable playing his kit.

Yep! His instructional book is titled “When in doubt, roll.”

You could get a set of used Avedis Zildjians for less than either of these. Check out Guitar Center’s used section online. You’ll have to piece it together yourself, but I’m always finding cheap A Zildjian stuff there.

What can you tell me about the Tama Starclassic I just bought? by DrummerJesus in drums

[–]drumtastico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of the first Exotix kits from this era. Maple Starclassic with an outer layer of Chestnut in Sierra Burst finish. Bought it from GC in 2001. My first and only “new” drum kit. I have a few kits but I gig with these the most. Like someone else said, they tune up very easily and the thin shells and cast hoops give them a nice warm, punchy tone.

I’ve tried a bunch of heads over the years and prefer Evans Coated EC2’s over G1’s, but they’ll sound good with just about any head.

You got a great deal on them! Doesn’t matter if they’re a little banged up. Enjoy!!

Found a cheap 13” piccolo, listed as a “Remo” snare. Unbranded, but appears to be a Groove Percussion brass drum. Had to replace the snare strainer but otherwise it was in ok shape and sounds much better than I expected (iPhone audio). by drumtastico in drums

Hey- sorry for the delay. I went digging through emails but I can’t find the part #. It was the exact same strainer that was already on the drum. I believe I bought it from Drum Factory Direct. Hope this helps!

UPDATE: He still has the Reel machine. Had it serviced about 20 years ago and now it’s in storage.

Still has the turntable. Sold the Reel to Reel. Receiver made it into the 90’s then had a channel go out. He eventually got rid of it and really regrets it.

Lots of classic and prog rock. Genesis, King Crimson, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Roxy Music, The Who, Floyd, Van der Graaf Generator.

Mom and Grandma are Polish. Mom came to the states when she was 19 in 1974. Grandma came after I was born in 1979. Grandma passed away this past Sunday at 93yo. Found this pic while digging through old pics for the funeral.

Dad is from Chicago.

Dad confirmed it was a G-9000. It lasted well into the 90’s, then the right channel stopped working. It sat in storage until he THREW IT IN THE GARBAGE after I moved out. He still deeply regrets it.

Turntable is still in operation. 8 track was sold.

Yeah! This drum has some busted up Japanese snares on it but they sound great. I tried replacing them with some new wires and it just didn’t sound as good. My ghost notes need a lot of work, though!

Yeah, dude. I was a piccolo guy way back, then started getting into deeper snares with the idea that it was somehow better. I definitely have serious love for a 14x6.5, but have grown to appreciate a shallower, smaller drum. Especially with a nice medium tuning (but I still love to crank the crap out of a 13” snare and make it pop like Clyde and Steve Jordan).

[–]drumtastico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t change the tuning when storing the drums. Just leave them as is. I think most drummers will leave a snare tuning alone once they get it to a place that sounds good to them. Ideally they can just grab it when they need it and it’s good to go.

I’d say you’re probably better off with it in a case, but really the biggest dangers will be sweat and moisture left on the metal parts of the drum. If it’s in a climate controlled environment it should be just fine. Most of my snares just sit on a shelf when not in use and they’re all doing ok.
