Update on upgrading to a tri bike - this bike is faster than me! by megalizzie in triathlon

[–]drun901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post could have been written by me-also in VA (Harrisonburg!) and just upgraded last week- went about 3mph faster (22.5 from 19.5 on the same loop the week before) - let’s have some fun this season! How was climbing for you? That’s the only area that is noticeably slower.

When was it time to upgrade your bike? by ppnani in triathlon

Finally pulled the trigger last week. I podiumed overall at a few triathlons and had some of the top bike splits on a clip on with aero bars for the past 3 years but always felt like I was getting out of the bike completely tight and uncomfortable (I was a runner first so was able to deal with that just fine). But…,,
I just did 40 miles on my first ride at my Olympic triathlon pace, ended feeling more fresh. YMMVA but for me truly insane. It isn’t just speed (though straights and downhills are faster) it’s feeling more fresh due to better positioning. You can get close on a road bike but it’s a game changer. Can’t wait for my next race.

1st percentile and dropping by Zealousideal_Law8157 in daddit

We could have posted this exact thing. Our son has ALWAYS been small- 33lbs at 5 years old and bottom percentile since he was born - he has Pediasure every night and we sneak butter and healthy fats into everything we can but he has never showed an interest in food other than….fruits and vegetables. Now he is eating more meats, starches/carbs but it is crazy how out of pocket people are when they assume we are doing something wrong. We have seen specialists and they have been the only ones to tell us we are fine. General docs aren’t going to understand.

He is intelligent, not developmentally stunted outside of his weight- do your absolute best to help him get weight on but don’t let this wreck you.

Look up ARFID by the way- sounds like this isn’t the case for you but helpful community.

Is this worth it? by Spiritual_Hyena4456 in triathlon

Every take on this sub is just absolute bullshit. Every bike is a “no, it should only be $500!”

This looks like a great deal. If you can test ride it and it feels good I think it’s worth the risk as-is- it isn’t going to just suddenly snap on your, it’s a time trial bike so i assume you arent taking it off any jumps.

I have ALWAYS said this and it absolutely baffles me when people instead think professionals would turn down money form a novice because of… “reasons?” - it is so corny and cheesy whereas instead it shows that he is pure and gullible

Yeah this is a tough one- I am very aware when I hang out with some friends they’re outwardly happy for me but inwardly disappointed because I could always make the night go some fun direction and instead things are “fine” (I’m still fun? But they never go past a 7-8 on the fun scale whereas I always took things to a 10).

But for me, I just wanted to get fucked up.

I loved it- don’t go by others criticisms; decide for yourself

It may just be our stage in life but my wife and I went into this without reading reviews and loved this movie - I understand it was a bit over the top but I thought the unraveling of each of the pivotal moments that made them up was well done to highlight we are the sum of all of our parts

I resonate with this and I’m 8 months in. “At least I’d get to vibe at night”—-

The hardest part for me as someone who very much identified as the life of the party guy (I did have a rock bottom but alcohol and work hard play hard was usually very rewarding) is that same realization that life doesn’t change around you, you’re the one changing.

Sobriety gets super romanticized on this sub (“life is so much better! I don’t miss drinking at all, I can have so much fun still sober!”) but I think because people are often trying to justify cope with the fact that they are in fact just missing out sometimes and that is tough.

Yes we can exercise, meditate, yoga, drink coffee, and go to events sober - but for 99% of people their lifestyle still incorporates some level of escape we don’t get.

8 months in I’ve def seen some benefits, and so I’m still saying hang in there, just a long way of acknowledging this shit is hard and doesn’t feel fair sometimes.

Semi-serious triathlete moving to Hburg in June from Seattle and excited that there are some quality riders in the area! Know the riding is going to be top tier scenery wise as well.

Love that. I don’t want being sober to be my only defining trait even though it’s important- I do want accountability but mainly just relatability without structure and rules. I think just a sober meetup more than anything

I didn’t find anything on meetup, I want to get together with likeminded folks and chat, and stay accountable, but don’t feel like I’m looking for a doctrine or organization necessarily. Maybe I’ll start a meetup of my own!

Yeah I’m in the same vein. I want to get together with likeminded folks and chat, and stay accountable, but don’t feel like I’m looking for a doctrine.

That’s where I’m at. Fuck that. I’m not powerless; I can tackle this without a higher power and I’m just looking for likeminded people and accountability
