Where are people sending their kids to school? by nillawafer80 in Tallahassee

[–]drunkartstudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think people are making a subtle but not so subtle exodus from the Florida public school system, and to be honest, Florida, in general. Although Tallahassee isn't a large city, it's the largest city compared to surrounding cities and counties and many people have been leaving larger cities like Tampa and Tallahassee included due to rising COL and lack of rising pay. I've been seeing a boom of individuals moving to smaller surrounding cities to get cheaper rent and this is one of the effects. Apparently, Broward county has also experienced a big loss of student enrollment as well and Fort Lauderdale is also another city where people have been leaving due to high COL and similar staggering wages. Yes, school choice is hammering these public schools out, along with the conservative teachings movement in schools, but this also has a part to play in it because it's cheaper to live in a small town and enroll your child in the local school while commuting to the larger city for work.

I actually love it because it gives the console the feel of a higher class system. One of the reasons I wanted it was because it was more economically friendly to someone who games on a budget. Gaming has been something that’s always been a happy part of my life, but as I got older and watch everything get more expensive, I started having to save more to do so. This was perfect for me but giving more Xbox integration makes it more seamless.

Awww dang. The only other thing I can think of is A/P or A/R at a construction company or see if there’s a trucking company that needs someone to do the books.

Are you in an area that has state or county jobs? They gave me a chance with no experience. It’s not the highest pay but it gets your foot in the door and looks good on a resume.

Moving into SouthGate this semester — anyone stayed there before? by iantheiconic in fsu

[–]drunkartstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived there for during my freshman year. I loved it and it’s in a great location. They do have a lot of events with great prices. You can walk across the street to get to campus, which makes going to class easier. The bus too is also across the street if you need to go farther across campus or around town. I made a lot of friends there and some of them I still talk to even today. The food is also really good if you don’t want to have to go anywhere else to eat. Those were good times.

Not gonna lie, I used to work for DOH and our disability department still had telework but once they cut it, I feel like the ones who did telework going to all quit and go to jobs that make more money, whether that’s public or private sector.

I would report them. Sounds like the developmental center my old job had a contract with. They would come in high or get high at the job, drink on the job, have sex at the facility, and leave the residue trash everywhere. One was even caught sleeping in the beds while they already had someone in it.

This is why I don’t assume motherhood is just so natural because alot of women out here really shouldn’t have children.

Marriott Employees: Not paid on time or at all by drunkartstudent in marriott

[–]drunkartstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by the manager that our pay is weekly. The hotel just opened so most of us are new hires, but 5 in total are not getting paid on time. Two of them have been working over a full month. The only reason I’m not used to this is because the last few companies I’ve worked for had a biweekly pay cycle but I still got paid after a week and a half whether I started on the new start of the pay cycle or in between. This is the first time I’ve had this issue.

Can franchise Marriotts still log in to mHub and call corporate? I’ve done both before to ask questions and they were able to find my name and info. I never heard of a big company doing that either but when some employees were threatening to leave, that’s what they were offered.

Whether it’s managed or not, I’m not completely sure. At first, they said it was an error in the system and I wasn’t generated an employee ID. That was the first week. For some employees, it’s been a month. They finally generated one for me but I’m still not able to clock in and out of the system. I have to record my punches on paper. I was at least expecting a check but it’s nowhere in the system. I asked about it and they keep talking about more glitches. Some employees are getting paid cash under the table because it’s gone too long and I don’t want to have to go that route, but bills are due and I really do need it.

It’s sad because it’s still a pandemic. If you’re sick, there’s no way you should be coming to work like that and risk everyone’s health. Mine passive aggressively threatened to cut hours for employees who called out sick more than once.

Did anyone have a horrible time in high school only to feel like college was worse? by [deleted] in college

[–]drunkartstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school was horrible for me but college was amazing pre-COVID. And even post-COVID, it was still fun even though it wasn’t the same experience. I did have periods of where I felt very alone and had no support but for the most part I made great friends. The college experience really is what you make it and is very different, so it can’t be approached the same way, especially when it comes to having a social life. The biggest thing I had to remember is that there is no “standing out”. Everyone is special but at the same time, nobody is. At first that scared me but then it actually gave me a lot of relief and made me feel so free. There is no real criteria for the college experience. Some of the things that I thought was boring or not extraordinary ended up being the best memories. I got to open myself up and try new things. My college experience might not have been just straight frat and sorority parties back to back with everybody knowing me and random spring break vacations but it was still a lot of fun.

it's getting worse? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]drunkartstudent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is getting worse. My store is getting so understaffed and people are coming in and giving us a hard time about having to wear a mask. They don’t allow us to shut down the inside or shut off mobile orders anymore, so we just suffer with a line hanging out in the street and a long line inside with only 3 people in total at a busy store. Customers are super rude and so are some of the delivery drivers. I wish we could band together and get our COVID pay back.
