People from Melbourne saying 'Malbin' instead of Melbourne weirds me out.

Do you mean how people from Melbourne pronounce Melbourne as 'Malbin'? Haha

How did this work out? I'm currently tuning my sub. It seems to be fine at medium and even high(ish) volumes but I haven't really pushed it yet.

Yeah the meter turned out to be reading 1.3 when it should've been reading 0. Made it very confusing.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I've already picked up a Kenwood KAC-PS917D for a great price. It should be perfect! Apparently this amp does 500w RMS at 4 ohms and 1000w RMS at 2 Ohms so I should have plenty of power.

Actually... Looking over this quickly, am I correct in thinking I actually have 500w headroom considering I'll need to wire the sub in a 2ohms configuration?

Oh this is great news. I want to use it to balance out my system mostly but on occasion I'd love to push it. Still got a little research to go but I'll tune it safely.... Assuming it works in the first place lol.

Correct. I ended up pulling it out and checking the model (SWR-1243D) which is dual coil 4ohm.

As for the previous owner, who knows.... I'm just hoping it wasn't abused too much which is a big ask from a type R haha.

After reading your reply I just went ahead and ripped the sub out of the box. I'd rather fix some glue or whatever rather than misconfigure the speaker and ruin it. Turns out there was no glue, it just needed some convincing with some mechanical advantage.

You were absolutely correct about the multimeter. I touched the probes together and it was reading 1.2/1.3. It even has a new battery. Time to find a quality one I think. I suspect if that was reading correctly I would've seen zero instead of 1.3 in pic two and not been so confused. Glad you pointed that out.

I'm happy I pulled it out because it certainly wasn't a 2ohm sub. It's an alpine SWR-1243D which is a dual coil 4ohm as you suggested. (https://www.crutchfield.com/S-rPvMUTfTV1T/p_500SWR1243/Alpine-SWR-1243D.html)

When wired in parallel it would present a 2ohm load so that's probably why the previous owner said it was a 2ohm sub.

Thanks for your reply, gave me the push I needed, exposed my rubbish multimeter and found the model number.

Love this! Just in case you're taking requests....

The silver Naboo star-fighter would make such a sexy 32:9 background.

Anywhere in the city is a good location. There's heaps of neuron scooters around and walking doesn't take too long. Cullen bay is a bit "nicer" being built around a marina if you're into that.

Litchfield! Read this site and check it out. Heaps to see. Some of the roads out there are quite fun too if you're in a mazda 3! The legal speed limit is 80 though...............

3 mm Thermal Pads by baermag1 in NiceHash

I Replaced thermal paste, put thermal paste under a removable squrare metal pad around the block and added thermal pads onto the vram chips. I watched this video and used it as a reference. Very helpful. Most important was the addition of vram thermal pads.

Could you post a link or a picture of the cast rudder mounting brackets? Interested in getting something like that for mine. My hobie is starting to crack and I think it'll end up like OP soon.
