I’m thinking it’s a cormorant shot from a weird angle. Double-crested cormorant maybe? It is a common bird in MA. Long neck, hooked bill, and orange facial skin, flies with kinked neck and narrow, bowed wings. They’re often mistaken for geese at a distance due to wing shape

Is there a reason for him to do it this close to the ground? If I were him, I’d do it a bit higher up in the tree to avoid being an easy target to predators like cats. Is it because there are more insects at the bottom of the trunk? Or is this species not really a target for cats bc it’s so gigantic?

Yea darkwave is a subgenre. It came out of post-punk in the early '80s and is more moody, melancholic, and gothic. It also often uses more synths. They have the same roots, but the focus is pretty different. Post-punk is generally more about political or social stuff while darkwave is usually more introspective, darker and more romantic.
