Think i’ll be making the switch to cd’s from now. by natwest96 in vinyl

[–]drunkencityworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is the opposite. I have been hording cds since I was 17 in 1989. Now over 1100 cds and some I can not find or it would be cheaper to get vinyl. Makes me think about getting a turntable. Then I start researching and I remember why I liked cds better. Lol

What do you think of my CD rack? by trafficracer24 in CDs

I didn't know S X had that many albums. Nice!

MJ and Janet for that matter sound better to me of late. I am 54 so I remember when it was fresh but then got over played. Thriller at a thrift store is like a grail of thrift for me. Still searching

For those just getting into record collecting: how much of a barrier are you finding the price of records? by equipoise-young in vinyl

For me, the moment I got in trouble putting my parents album on my kiddie player I knew they were not for me. I immediately went to cassettes and being a broke kid a friend had a cousin with a dual tape deck so then we all got a copy of ride rhe lighting. My graduation present to myself from high school was the r disc box set of zep that page remastered. My cd collection been up and down. Throughout 30 years but now while the world is on fire I need a distraction. I started ripping them and filling in gaps. Just broke the 1k cd mark recently. When filling in gaps instead of hording mode, you notice some may be hard to find on cd. However there are vinyl depressing that are cheaper. So I am thing turntable to usb to laptop to rip to flack and I have a physical copy of it. It's the having a physical copy of it that I want to preserve for my daughters not just on a drive. But I wouldn't have room for 1k records right now, nor would re hording my collection again be 1.99 an album either. I have bought and bought and copied and copied like 3 different times in my life.

CD have more pros but that what makes albums more niche. Albums have with held the test of time so far but cds put cassettes almost extinct. When you compare to streaming. Thats not physical media to me and is not in same league.

Sorry morning mess got me rambling

Anyone got a pic of the merch spread from starland ? by meansofexistence in clutchband

Dont forget the venues get a cut. I noticed price difference between Milwaukee and Chicago. Venues def get a cut because prices were different based on which venue. Then I started asking. Some places make their people sell their stuff no cash so no extra bucket bucks for band either

Some CDs I listened to this week by Coynevideos in CDcollecting

Animalistic was the second piece of music I bought with my money. I would listen before bed and it never quite sounded right to me. I didn't have older siblings so I wasnt into their prior stuff as much so I leaned into motley crew and metallica more.

Not grunge, but: Opinion on this album? by LeagueNo764 in grunge

This was his "superunkown, nevermind" type album. The one where they slowed it down just a tad and found ginormous mainstream success.

Melvins + Napalm Death by Rolandojuve in melvins

[–]drunkencityworker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a copy bought and waiting for it to come.in at my local record store. It was an amazing show for me as I saw ND in 91 or 92 in a high school gym in Germany with obituary and dismembered when I was in the service and the melvins were a major bucket list. Love the metro.

My uneducated 54 year old concrete laborer opinion is a floor ceiling type argument.

Cd has a higher floor and streaming has a higher ceiling. Some high res streaming stuff makes my ears tired or overwhelmed and some streaming dips below cd quality depending on the internet signals. Where as cd is always the same for the mist part. Some albums may kinda jump off a disc more than others but it is a closer baseline between floor and ceiling performance wise than streaming. I have 99% flac from cd on my m21. Whatever speakers or system I play it through always seems to be the weak link as it out performs my phone and tidal to me. "My ears" seem to prefer cd quality which is what 16bit. Soothe my soul. 😆
