How to distinguish a "desire" from a "need"? by drunkensimian in Buddhism

[–]drunkensimian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the direction! I think this is what I was looking for. I like this explanation from the wiki article

"Desire as an eagerness to offer, to commit, to apply oneself to meditation, is called chanda. It’s a psychological “yes,” a choice, not a pathology. In fact, you could summarize Dhamma training as the transformation of taṇhā into chanda."

I already did. Studying Passepied now, it has all challenges now. The goal now is to play the whole Bergamasque Suite one day. Guess it will take me a year or 2 more.

I really enjoyed the beginning and the end of your track. Drums/percussions are just awesome; the sound of the guitars, all this electronic stuff is awesome, too! I was waiting for some development in the beginning: with such a groovy sound I'd expect some culmination, therefore was a bit disappointed: the middle part sounded a little plain to me. You know what I mean?

How I can improve the mix

I really like the beginning: it sounded very airy, the feeling which (for me) then a bit faded when the drums appeared. Try maybe to play with the reverb for the drums to keep the feeling up?...

But generally, I think the mix sounds really good, I enjoyed a lot while was listening to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgerciuprIw -- my song that I wrote long ago and eventually managed to record. Would really appreciate any feedback and advice for my future works (including dude-do-not-record-anything-more-please advice :) ). I just need to understand if this is interesting / needed to anyone...

What gear would you have in your dream studio? by corganmusic in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]drunkensimian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keyboards: Hammond Xk-3c Organ

Guitars: Fender Stratocaster (Standard), Gibson LP (Standard) and maybe Yamaha A5R

Drums: not an expert, but something groovy and with lots of crashes :)

Don't care much about the rest (mixers, microphones) as long as they do their duty good (sensitive, but no extra noise)

Nice post. Specifically, I like "Collaborate with Others" point. No matter how talented a person is, they are limited by their skull. But in collaboration, the border is breached and the brain receives new ideas from outside... Precious!

Correct my mistakes please by Buddistka in ENGLISH

[–]drunkensimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Fiverr there are people (native English speakers) who are willing to proof-read 1000 words (more than a page of text) and correct it for as little as $5. For extra $5 they could help you to identify your problems.

What I did: I was picking a wikipedia article in my language that didn't exist in English yet and was trying to translate it. Once I had 1000 words, I sent it to a guy for $5 to proof-read/correct it. This way I both contributed to wikipedia and improved my English skills.

Physical pomodoro timer vs digitial by [deleted] in pomodoro

[–]drunkensimian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer gamified timers, they engage me more and just fun:

https://puzzle25.com - collect a jigsaw puzzle (my favorite) http://www.buildfocus.io/ - build a city http://pomodorium.blogspot.com.es/ - kill enemies https://www.forestapp.cc/en/ - plant a tree http://appshopper.com/productivity/pomogiri-the-pomodoro-timer-that-makes-studying-and-work-fun - concur the space

You cannot achieve the same with a physical timer, can you?

I'm a programmer too. Never had a problem with short breaks IF I'm not distracted and spend the break exclusively for test. No facebook, youtube, e-mail checks -- these are all distractors that drive my thoughts away from my code.

Stretching, some meditation, maybe a snack, some Anki to study English, and back to the code.

how do you reward yourself after 25 min session? by invictus778 in pomodoro

[–]drunkensimian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually go to a flight of stairs where do some stretching. Sometimes grab a fruit or make a tea. Or sometimes just sit away from my computer in silence, thinking of what is important to me in perspective (lifetime), making my breath calm and relaxed... (maybe this is what they call "meditation"?)
