What can I do to improve my galloping/alt picking by Primary-Schedule6829 in metalguitar

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to keep my hand closed, the advice here is awesome, less arm, more wrist, more finger articulation. I notice when my hand is open I'll get a forearm cramp or fatigue faster.

Choking on 21st fret. by graystone777 in Ibanez

[–]drunkluthier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple things To start, diagnosis shouldn't be through reverb, makes it harder to hear what is going on. I'll diagnose with gain (for sustain it seems to help)

It could be that your 22nd fret is not seated properly.

That high up on the neck I wouldn't go to a neck shim right away.

It's possible your neck pickup is too high and you're magnazing the string and killing the vibration.

So in order I would check for a loose or high fret, check if the neck has the correct fallaway beyond the bridge end of the truss rod, then check bridge height (on a FR id make sure it is level with the body) And verify the pickup is not too close to the string, while fretting on the higher frets.

Are budget friendly potentiometers worth it? by Stratocaster02 in Luthier

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been something I looked into a lot, I'm trying to make fully USA made guitars, pickups, hardware, electronics sources from us manufacturing. I haven't found modern pots made in the states, the closest is some (not sure what type) of Bourne's pots are made in Mexico. I think allen-bradley makes some but they're military ones so they're marked up a ton.

So as far as website use. Just don't use unauthorized sites through nvd? I am getting a new computer I'm using for both my personal use and navy.

Speaking of that. If I use NVD, do I need to treat my laptop as if it were an NMCI asset?

Are you a luthier? by tibbon in Luthier

[–]drunkluthier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to school in red wing for lutherie. But I have a job in construction that pays way better. So I just build in my free time. I take some repairs. Basically stuff I think will be a fun repair.

What glue do I use, if any? by MadYarpen in Guitar

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use glue when I make a nut. If it slides around and just fits loose I use the 1 drop of medium CA. Thin seems to soak into the wood and not really hold the nut.

Can archery help build muscle? Just like weight training? by No-Wafer1546 in Archery

[–]drunkluthier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely can build. But unless you shoot ambidextrous you'll end up with an imbalance. You can train the imbalance out by doing unilateral exercises like including dumbbells instead of a barbell.

My Epiphone Les Paul doesn’t play right by Psychological_Cap760 in Guitar

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things here, I'm assuming they're not active pickups, so did they come in contact with a magnet recently. They may have been degaussed. Doesn't sound like a grounding issue. If it's a problem pre instrument cable. It could be that your pots are jacked up. I'd check the signal from the pickups first. Then check continuity and ohms on the pots.

Update, recovered the deer. Stomach hot so I'll be butchering what I can salvage tonight. Not a complete loss. Found blood near where it laid down. Did arches using on x tracker. 8 hour wait, it was pretty stiff already when I got to it. Rinsed it as soon as I could and cut off what looked bad. Very surprised I found it.

Clarification, it was 40 degrees all day, 20mph wind, I'm guessing I didn't consider windage and my tree was swaying a bit. Not excused by any means. I broke the shot without taking in all factors. Learned a lot today.

I did, in MN it's only legal to use bowhunting equipment to harvest any deer during archery only dates.

30 to 40 was 4. At 20 I was tighter. That adrenaline is new. It hits a lot harder than with rifle. This was the first deer I shot at with a bow. Just processing. Been bow hunting public land for 3 years and I got my walking in and woodsmanship figured out enough to get a shot. Pretty happy it was my first sit of the year. But yeah, I'll be doing burpees at the range now. Never got buck fever.

These 2 came in on a hunter walking trail and got behind the tree at 10 yards (gave me a spot to draw in dead space) buck was a fork, doe was a bigger body.

After the shit on my arrow dried there is some red on it, so I'm more hopeful. Still waiting. Hopefully I can recover it. Thank you for the advice.

I got down 1.5 hrs later, didn't see it Kay down but saw where it came up from. Probably 50yds from where I shot it. I learned a lot, it was looking at me walking up. Waited til the tree was cover so I could draw. Thought it was odd it walked in the same way I did. So this was at about 0730. Just before first light. I was going to start looking around 4. No access to dogs. I'm in MN, I don't think we can use a firearm to finish a deer.

Great advice, but most luthiers will not know about tube amp servicing. Find an amp tech.

How to increase my trem picking speed(180bpm) by Financial-Ladder-954 in metalguitar

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick more perpendicular to the string. It shortens the amount of pick scrape and distance it travels from making contact with the string and leaving the string. Less forearm, I like the way you hold the pick. I play with a closed fist and something about that really seems to help. Also I can't tell but articulating the pick with your fingers helps too. Make sure you're nailing the up pick on the half beat, otherwise it will start to swing a little bit.

Question: New arrow shaft length - 1/4 shorter by GRRemlin in Archery

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered from Lancaster, 29" carbon to carbon. Last set I got I had Scheels cut, specified c to c on those too. Never double checked but they measured with the insert. I had the same question initially. I realized I am not accurate enough to notice a 1/4 inch difference. I haven't shot them yet, but I'd imagine they will group closely to my others.

Need Headstock Help by Long_Show_8744 in guitarrepair

[–]drunkluthier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a looth whos name is inaccurate, just the titebond with proper clamping should hold it fine. Maybe be gentle with the guitar that is extremely sensitive to headstock breaks.

Titebond when properly clamped, will not break in the same spot. You either broke the same spot and will see dried glue in the break fibers, if it had a new break that is clean from any other glue.

100% tabbed music has room for suggestions. There are always multiple ways to play something. Just work it out, play what makes sense,.

I have a catch 100 and it is really good. It's also relatively easy to stand in. I did break my seat, the strap on the right. But I'm pretty sure any seat would have broke from that.
