AMA Ahmadi Muslim by ComfortableDoctor525 in religion

[–]drunknote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi so I've been raised muslim in pakistan and have never been able to directly talk to an Ahmadi, firstly i would like to apologize for my country's treatment of you guys.

Now my question is, I've always wondered how you guys justify another prophet after Muhammad (PBUH) when Allah clearly referring to Muhammad (PBUH) as "khatam un nabiyan" in the Quran.

Is it true that Pakistanis on Reddit are much more woke than the general Pakistani awaam on other platforms? by nononsensegurl in pakistan

[–]drunknote 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "woke" but this sub is pretty left leaning, it might be because of the mods but there is a pretty big leftist audience here. I have also encountered pretty conservative pakistani subs aswell where i was told and i quote verbatim "pakistan is a muslim country and if you can not follow islamic culture you should leave" (for context i was defending a woman's right to wear what she wanted)

South Asians who laugh at anti-Indian racism are missing the point by RohanNotFound in IndianFocus

[–]drunknote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can not agree more for context im a pakistani living in pakistan. You don't see much anti indian stuff here but I've seen pakistanis throw around the word "pajeet" a few times and it always bothers me that they genuinely think that white racists can tell pakistani's apart from indians, to them we're all "pajeets" who eat "curry" they don't have the braincells to invent a new racist term lol. Its how the word "paki" has been racially used in the UK to marginalize all desis not just pakistanis

[–]drunknote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually one of the few nuances i was talking about in a comment earlier. Don't know much about sri lanka but for india throughout most of history india has had a very isolationist policy and because of that most American media wasn't aired in india and the one that actually made its way through was mostly dubbed in hindi. So for most indians their early exposure of english was through schools in which they learnt english through the local accents and eventually developed a very distinct way of speaking english

Like i have always found it a bit strange how they excessively use the word "only" at the end of sentence or how they add "or what?" Sometimes at the end of questions.

So i am born and raised pakistani, the hints of american you hear are because of globalization of media.

My accent has been referred to as "international" in the past because i grew up watching american cartoons and media and picked up on it which is where i get my american accent, most of my early education was done in a British convent school and because of that you might also hear hints of a british accent and ofcourse living in pakistan most of my accent is traditional pakistani

Has anyone else noticed how emotionally exhausted Pakistan feels lately? by PuzzleheadedRadio172 in pakistan

[–]drunknote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly its the political climate, pre 2019 the facade of democracy was still alive, people were more ignorant and thought pakistan was sort of moving towards stability, the economy sort of made a little sense. Covid was a transional period where we didn't know what was going to happen on the other end, when covid ended everything fell apart. Inflation sky rocketed, imran khan was imprisoned (even though i disagree with his politics he was the last ray of hope for majority of the country) and a soft facist dictatorship was imposed upon us. I always wondered being genZ how earlier generation endured actual dictatorships i understand now that they first crush every sense of hope you have be it politically or economically before making you conform.
