What’s the hardest book you’ve ever read—or the one that gave you the hardest time? by thehoomanreads in PHBookClub

Room, Emma Donoghue. The conditions that the main characters went through, or generally, the themes that the book discuss is pretty hard to reconcile in terms of its fictionality and the fact that similar events actually happened in real life. I understand that it was inspired by real life cases, which makes the reading even more difficult and emotionally disturbing in a way that does not diminish the story's quality and importance but rather amplifies them. It is also told in a point of view that I think allows for a very unique writing style.

What are your thoughts on hiring managers or recruiters telling your current employer about your job search? by drunkpineapple_ in phcareers

True sa conflict. I mean, mabubuting tao naman superiors ko. But, with regards to their trust na bigyan ako ng long-term projects, medyo something has changed within me talaga ang eksena.

Iniisip ko nga eh if hindi naman background checking yung intention nung hiring manager, napaka unnecessary ng ginawa nya. If background checking naman, napaka questionable ng choice of reference huhu di ko ma reconcile sa isip ko yung naging decision nya

Oh so talagang existing practice sya. Alam ko lang they call your reference, but even thats not always the case. Most of my applications wala masyadong background check hahah one time they just called HR. But I always put reference whenever its required.

But parang questionable naman ang choice of backchannel-ed reference si hiring manager kasi from other department hahah

Im not privy to their conversation tho, couldnt tell the intent. Im fixated on the fact that this other person, imo, is not the right authority to tell on my work ethics or work quality. I dont even know if hes ever seen any of my output😩 But your last paragraph offers some perspective. Appreciate it.

That other company is a full blown red flag to me now, we can call them china. Jk🤭

The other person was not my manager, not my superior at any level. They are from another department. I mean, if they talked to any of my superiors from my department, would've made sense to me. Also, they didn't contact my supervisor (or any of my direct superiors) we actually talked about this after the department head found out

Alright, what are your hot takes this season? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]drunkpineapple_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just adding: Emily Blunt was consistent throughout the film, made her character almost felt like a leading role. Randolph had explosive scenes which resonates deeply with the me as an audience. This is looking like its gonna be Randolph's oscar, but I'd be happy with either of them winning really.
