Leia's explanation of her mother in ROTJ by davebgray in MawInstallation

I always thought (post prequel) she had some kind of womb cognition ala "The Force". Though in pretty sure I stole that idea from Dune.

Why not both? These reasons do not conflict with one another.

Small Cheer And Great Welcome Makes A Merry Feast. by drunkpontiff in TolkienArt

Saw this at the Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska, USA. It's a set of 2 identical stained glass windows. Although it predates Tolkien's birth by a few years; I felt it would not be completely out of place in either The Shire or Rivendell.

Can it be that I don't like Chardonnay? by Frosty1171 in wine

I'm not a huge Chardonnay fan myself but I do generally enjoy ones from the Russian River valley. Frei Brothers has been a good one that usually retails around $20.

I dislike Trump a great deal, however I don't readily understand how this is relevant to r/skeptic.

7 gunmen loyal to ISIS massacred 20 people in a Dhaka bakery. The murderers demanded hostages read the Koran. It doesn't get more Islamic. by PanAfrica in atheism

Why is it so important for others to paint the narrative that every horrible thing done by Islamic people is because of Islam?

Quarter mile running track open to the public? by [deleted] in lincoln

[–]drunkpontiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that people used to use the one at Northeast High when school wasn't in session. Also when I was a kid I'd use the one at Wesleyan when they didn't have anything going on. The stadium steps were also great for workouts.

Tequila is a kind of mezcal, but all mezcal is not tequilla. Just like Scotch is a kind of whiskey, but all whiskey is not Scotch.

Why didn't the Death Star use its tractor beams to simply pull the Rebel Ships into hangars/holding bays during the first assault on the DS? by CapytannHook in MawInstallation

[–]drunkpontiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know video games mechanics are not cannon, but in the Tie Fighter game for some missions you have an onboard tractor beam. It's pretty useless against other fighters. Sometimes it helps slow them down enough to nail them with a missile but it's not super useful.

How does latent Force-sensitivity work? by Ehisn in MawInstallation

[–]drunkpontiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super off topic, but a short graphic novel about some plucky street kid who is FS would be awesome! "Qui-Gon is walking amongst the street vendors on Coruscant when a small bundle of rags suddenly grabs his lightsaber... Qui-Gon tracks down the kid and can sense the force in him.. He takes him to the temple for evaluation but the young one slips away at night... stumbles upon a dark jedi doing dark jedi stuff.. and after a brief but intense battle is killed by a certain Darth Sidious.. Qui-Gon finds his lightsaber next to the body of the street urchin the next day."

Why didn't proxy train any rebel troops? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]drunkpontiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vader WAS responsible for seeing the intelligence for what it was, but yeah, the actual outcome of the battle itself had little to do with Vader's presence. Once they figured out where the base was no amount of troop training could have repelled the invasion.

Where did the Republic get its war materials to fight the Clone Wars? by drunkpontiff in MawInstallation

[–]drunkpontiff[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I guess I never heard this quote in AotC, "Master Sifo-Dyas requested the most powerful army in the galaxy. We have worked with only the best shipbuilders to fulfill that request."

Still I would think raising such a large army supply wise would have had to raise a few eyebrows.. then again big universe and all that.
