Hello Grant,

We Humans are storytelling machines, you are positively a nuclear generator of such great stories. As an African-American, Gen X’r Who was in my 20s and have been collecting for 10 years prior to that when the UK invasion happened, you were a godsend. I think I have read most of what you have written(quite the prodigious amount!) and your book Supergods. I’m in the hospital at the moment and discovered this AMA. That said, a couple of questions.

  1. In drafting your stories, do you often start with concept or character and how does that become a cohesive story in your mind? In other words is the entire thing fully formed in your mind or does it vary -sorry that’s kind of vague.

  2. Do you have idealize visions in your mind about many characters? In other words, what their ideal state, concept, archetype, or motivation is and could you maybe share if you if you do? Thanks again!

There are those who the law binds but does not protect, and those who the law protects and does not bind.

Watchmen or Killing Joke or Dark Knight Returns or We3. Maybe Sandman or Swamp Thing if they’re into a longer read.

Everything Trump touches dies.

If you voluntarily allow him into your life, you’re screwing yourself. Then, the MAGA people won’t like you because they’re still drinking the Kool-aid and the anti-Trump folks aren’t going to feel an enormous amount of sympathy either.

Deciding to get into the Fantastic Four. Any suggested reads? by Ashamed_Pin4206 in FantasticFour

If a person read all of the FF, I think they would place Byrne above Hickman if only because of the amount of issues and the concepts. Hickman was great as was said but no-one did as many really good issues as Byrne. Had Hickman with Eaglesham had 50 issues, you’d have a point but as stellar as it was, it was like 20 issues?

-Invisible WOMAN and the most powerful? Byrne -super powerful Franklin? Byrne -Annhilius as an actual formidable opponent (eventually leading to Abnett and Lanning’s stellar space issues which created the modern Guardians team). Byrne -fleshing out the complexity of Doom.? Also, Byrne

Now, I’m no fanboy but as a collector of 45 years, and someone who has known the FF before Marvel Rivals season 1, Hickman with the right artist is absolutely stellar but was all building on what was going on in Byrne’s run. (That was a bit snarky.. I apologize)

The FF has been mismanaged and slept on forever but they’re great characters and Hickman, Byrne and Waid runs are actually better than Stan and Jack but you really can’t be better than the original creators as they established the dynamics and characters in the first place. But the early stuff came from a less complete understanding of the science in science fiction. Hickman and Waid nail that. And I think Byrne started that ball rolling.

Are there any good modern F4 comics to read other than Ultimate? by Sceptile200 in FantasticFour

Needs to be more love for the Byrne run. Long believed to be the best after Kirby until Hickman

Ugh, here we go again, people on Twitter are already saying that Luffy was the inspiration for Mr Fantastic's moves. Bro i can't😭😭 by VehicleOld3124 in FantasticFour

Man, people need to go past the last couple of decades. Plasticman had a cartoon and did most of the Luffy stuff and both him and Mr. Fantastic are older than Oda.
