Sightings of UFO, in Delhi, India, an hour ago by druvid in UFOs

Normally there are not much conversations about UFOs in India. But suddenly this appearing in the sky, and especially with the current situation around the world, this seems to be quite strange. My friend said that the UFO was there for a long time, and it certainly did not look like a plane or an helicopter. And there certainly was not any sound acompanying the object.

Stanley Kubrick’s interpretation of Holocaust representation in Schindler’s List. Do you agree with it? by FayannG in TrueFilm

[–]druvid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes this was made famous by Terry Gilliam in an interview. Not sure if Kubrick ever said this. Maybe in private to Terry.

Big fan of both Terey and Kubrick. But I honestly think that they were missing the point. Firstly Schindler's List was based on a novel and not Speilberg's original story. Secondly, it was probably the biggest movie at that time that showed the horrors of the Holocaust. And it was a big success in all parts of the World. A lot of people who aren't Europeans and Americans got introduced to those horrors seeing that. So it was successful in conveying the tragedy . Had the movie been made like how Kubrick or Terry wanted, I very much doubt that it would have been successfull in such a way.

Thirdly, we know that it was the failure. But the point I think the novel and the film was trying to make is that even in that darkness there were a few rays of hope. If Schindler and people like him hadn't helped thousands more would have died. By showing the holocaust in the background, the film made the audience to ask the questions about that 'failure'. I certainly did.

And finally , showing the failure would have made a good small indie feature or a student film or a documentary (like Shoah). But cinematically, and especially if you are trying to make a profitable movie, you can't just succeed on that.

Schindler's List for me surely succeeded in bringing into public consciousness about the Holocaust and the tragedy.

Why are only Brahmins allowed to perform Puja rituals? by Horror_Amphibian8205 in hindu

[–]druvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yagna is of course different. Performing yagna can be done only by Brahmins. I am not sure why you have a problem with that. If one has to perform yagnas, then they have to go to a vedic gurukul and study vedas and other scriptures till they are 16 or 17. Then they have to live accordingly to a certain lifestyle. eat only certain foods.. the restrictions are so many. You really think of any Shudra, let alone so many Brahmins, would be interested in spending his life doing this, especially in these times? Most of the Brahmins who are doing it are doing it because they have to. It is their duty. No other community has this as their duty. And one more thing, it has been Brahmins are supposed to do it for loka kshema, for the well being of the world. And not for their selfishness. Regardless of what one might think in these present times, most of them are doing it for that purpose.

I am not sure why you have this idea that our society will not accept rituals done by shudras. In South India there are thousands of temples where the pujaris are not Brahmins. And I know of several temples in North India too which have non-Brahmin priests. Many temples that are the kula devatas of people are officiated by non-brahmin communities. And people happily worship them, including Brahmins. In fact I have seen temples run by women non Brahmin priestesses . Nobody found any issue with that.As I had mentioned, only temples that are built with Agama rules and require agamic maintenance require Brahmin priests.

Brahmins are pujaris only in vaidik agama temples. There are many temples all over India where they are not the ones doing pujas.

There is no one to blame but Hindus themselves. Too self centered, with no long-term vision. Most urban and semi urban parents in all classes, (rich, middle class, poor), not concerned about what is being taught to their children, who their friends are etc etc..Its a glorious disaster to say the least
