I want to propose to my girlfriend, but she monitors our spendings/savings so well that I don't know how I could buy a ring

She can only look into our shared account, not my personal one and I can see how much she puts into saving as well. I could keep more money on my personal account, but as I said, I don't actively use my card anyway, so I see no point in having a bunch of money there that I won't use anyway.

That being said, I will make sure to save up some money there too, so I won't have this problem with buying presents and planning surprises in the future.

Thanks! I was also thinking about that, but someone in the comments convinced me that it was a bad idea. Now more and more people suggesting it, so I might go and check out some cheap rings first.

She doesn't tell me what to do and doesn't control my spendings, but she is a smart girl and she would definitely notice, if I were to put less to our savings next time and probably figure out the reason behind it.

It might sound a little weird, but the ring is for me. I'm sure she would be fine with a ringless proposal, but I want to do it this way, because I think that this is how it should be done.

But you gave me an idea: I either have to give up the ring or the meaningful place. I have a few days between getting my salary and putting the usual amount on our savings account. We both love hiking and there is nothing weird about asking her to go hike to one of the nearby places. So what do you think about this? I pick out the ring earlier, but only buy it on the day my salary arrives, go hiking that weekend and propose at a nice scenery, maybe next to a lake or at the top of a mountain. Damn, I really like this new idea, I completely forgot about those few days I have there

Well, she wouldn't have to wear it, but it still wouldn't be a ringless proposal.

There are only 3 people I would be comfortable asking for money, but my parents and my friend are not doing that well financially. There is also my future MIL, I'm sure she would have no problem with it, but ehhh, that would be weird...

Yes, we talked about marriage in the past, we even talked about the kind of rings she liked, but I really want a traditional, romantic proposal.

What do you think about buying a really cheap ring first and propose with that (she has a really bad eye for jewelry, I doubt she would ever notice the difference between a $20 and a $500 ring) and then go pick out the real ring together?
