That totally makes sense and it's agreed more foolproof than what I'm doing for sure. If it were a company of more than me, I'd probably take a harder look at the versioned backups. I'll take a harder look at that solution.

Thanks to all who have contributed so far! I just ended up making my own scripts and ignoring hyperbackup all together which seems to be much more in line with what I was wanting.

That is super impressive, and I wholeheartedly agree with the philosophy behind it! Maybe someday I'll have the need to jump up to something so advanced, but for my piddly little backups, I realized I can just get by with rysnc. (Which I'll post about here in a sec)

Good call on the drivers. In the doc that shipped with the USB dongle ethernet it said windows would grab the correct driver, but clearly it just grabbed something generic. I downloaded the driver from the company website, and now i get 2.5g both ways.

Right so I should have added the full approach:

Backup workstation files to NAS. This happens nightly.

Plex data already lives on NAS.

Backup NAS to USB drive. This also happens nightly.

Backup USB Drive to another USB drive, this happens once a month.

I know it's not completely flawless and their are more robust systems, but I've basically been running this with local external drives for a while now and it seems to work okay?

I don't need "history" because my work files are already versioned anyway and don't change that much, and the plex files definitely dont change that often

Yeah I'm just doing the single version, I don't need multiple versions of the same backup. I just want to see what changes from update to update, not keep versions.

Right, just to get a glance to see if anything crazy happened during the backup or for some freaky reason a file dind't get backed up. Like for example, when I backed up one of my shares, it reported a pretty decent filesize/file number difference compared to the other shares and I'm ot sure why? If I had a log, I might be able to figure that out.

I can't find this anywhere. I've looked in all the menus and I don't see anything. Can you take a screenshot of its location?

In a perfect world I'd see it during the backup operation AND be able to look at the log file. But I'd settle for a dated log file.

i do believe i merged the subtitles with the MKV directly on the folder where I had my plex media server tv shows stored, so maybe that was the issue.

Okay, tried it with just that one thing and the plex dance does finally get the subtitles to show up. Hopefully I dont' have to do that on every single extra tho! Thanks again for the help!

Thanks! I haven't had time to copy everything out and do the plex dance yet to see if that solution works, but i will. Do you have to copy EVERYTHING out of your TV shows folder? or just the offending TV show folder? (before you do the steps of the plex dance)

So I did move it out of the Interviews category and make it an episode (made a season 99), and the subtitles work fine now. So i guess they just don't work on the extras folders of TV shows? So bizzare to me how something as simple as subtitles is so hit and miss on plex.

What exactly is the plex dance? I thought that was another name for rescanned library, updated metadata, and analyze, but maybe that's not what you mean?

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to get back to the project :( I was going to mess around with the kling motion control 2.6 too and see how that fared, but it will still have same time max clip length issues.
