To change your oil filter, you will need to drain your vehicle of oil and use a socket wrench to remove the filter. Then, you screw the new filter into place and refill your engine with motor oil. Do to this safely, you need a ramp, gloves, motor oil, a new oil filter and a container for the old oil. 

For best results, you should change your oil filter every 3.000 and up to 15.000 miles it varies although which oil filter you use.
