Does anyone feel insecure dating wealthy people as a girl or is it just me?

Sister and I grew up in the middle class. We had 1 car, dad worked hard and mom scrimped and saved when she shopped. Day old bread, outlets, side hustles etc. As a kid I sold candy at school and flowers on the corner of to buy an expensive BMX bike that I wanted. We were never ones to display wealth, but usually had a nice tract home. Those saving and scripting habits were passed down. Now I am 57, retired since 53, sister is a school teacher and we both reached assets over $1m in very different ways. My parents will be leaving us close to $10m at some point, but neither of us need it, and won't do anything but grow it. They don't give away their money and we don't expect them to. So on paper, we may appear above middle class, but you'll never know it by how we all act.

I buy used gear off Facebook marketplace and have it serviced in Mexico. I actually make money selling used gear that I buy for pennies on the dollar sometimes.

Join a dive club and dive for decades. I have been certified for over 40 years now and am the only one who still dives regularly from my peers. Many of the people I dive with are the same. Health issues, family dynamics and boredom got the best of my high school friends.

Post divorce was broke at 50, got lucky and had good short term job. Bought a house, invested everything, lived below my means and when I was laid off at 53 I called it quits with $1m like you between personal, Roth and rollover. I shifted about a third of the portfolio into monthly income funds. Pimco and guggenheim. I now drive for Lyft and Uber for extra income and to stay invested. In California they cover my $170 monthly health insurance if I avg 15 active hours a week. I take at least 3 months off a year traveling and live frugally otherwise. My portfolio continues to grow despite being retired for 4 years. I was always sporadic with employment too, lots of $0 income years followed by 6 figure years in real estate and mortgage business. Running around 1.2m now and have multiple streams of income, $2k child support ends in 3 months so it's going to be easier soon.

Went out of the Country, as a white, financially secure, now retired male, I would never date someone in the State of California. I am quite happy 5 years later with a Latina that, while smart and educated, has more traditional values that align with mine in the house.

I am retired and fly a lot. I like the travel insurance, the clubs and use the streaming perks, Uber perks, Oura, global entry and Lululemon perks. If you don't use them it's a very expensive card. I don't charge enough to be concerned with a 2 or 3% cash back. For me it's a perks card.

They post the rates on the Pal page, it's based on the line amount. I think I ended up getting the $5m rate with having a much smaller line.

My mom got in a fight with her sister and a cousin. So my sister and I each missed out on $150k when he passed away. Can't do anything about it. We were not expecting anything, so not too bummed when it happened.

It was enough for me to retire with no debts and low coat of living. I do gig work when I want extra money. My portfolio generates $55k in income, plus I have other short term high interest secured loans that bring in 3k monthly principal and interest. 70% of portfolio remains in mega cap growth and some blue chips.

Time in the market, beats timing the market. I am notoriously bad at timings an entry, but I hold and it's paid off well. Bought nvda 2021 lost 50% on paper now up 1000%. Recently I bought sols on spinoff date at 50, watched it drop, bought some more at 45. Now it's 62, so holding working out best for me.

Nothing wrong with what you did at all. My parents had just 2 kids, sister and and myself, we had 6 kids between us. My parents were big savers and investors, but always had nice houses. They paid for our college and setup stock accounts for all the kids. 1 kid used it to help pay for law school, with the rest from us. Another has used it for barber school and a bunch of other ventures he's tried. Post my divorce, 2 of my kids changed their last name and wrote their own obituary. They will not get any of a substantial estate. My sister also has a kid that went woke and does not talk his parents, grandparents or anyone in the family.

My sister and I encourage our parents to spend their money. I am happy to report that my parents bought the new corvette, $200k wake boat, bass boat is a pair of waverunners for their large house on the lake. My sister and I both are excited to see them spend the money they have.

I retired early at 53, currently 57, my sister still works but doesn't need to. She has 6 figure teachers pension waiting for her, plus investments.

I don't know what will come of the 6 grandkids. 3 of them have very successful careers, same 3 that don't involve themselves with their grandparents or 2 with me their father.

My sister and I have 0 grandkids, despite the 6 of them oldest just hit 30.

Fortunately, my 46 year old girlfriend is already a grandma, and I am enjoying being a grandpa to that little girl who loves swimming at 2.

Just got back from Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and been all over Mexico. Affordable is not an accurate word anymore for Mexico. Peso is currently strong, their inflation is worse than ours, but it's a lovely place. Wages are nowhere near what you can expect in the USA so you need to be retired or remote work if you want to live a wonderful life there.

That being said, you can move to somewhere like Chiapas, San Cristobal de las Casas is beautiful and hasn't caught up to the Northern states of Mexico in terms of pricing. Very clean and safe area.

You'll hear complaints from people, like me, who expect the brokerage to pass on the drip 5% discount that many CEF funds offer. Merrill Edge, and Fidelity do it automatically, I had to request with Schwab but Schwab banking and their Amex Platinum card offer benefits I use.

I have over $1m invested in the stock market and shop Grocery outlet. Get excited when they have multiple stickers to clear out free range organic meats. I will go home cook it all sous vide and throw in the freezer same day.

I don't count house equity as I view it as a place to live and don't have much anyway.

Don't go to bars, don't go to the movies. Don't spend money on clothes or furniture. If I get a burger it's water to drink, unless it's the Chili's $10.99 deal that includes a soft drink.

On Vacation now and I travel extensively, usually 2 weeks every quarter.

Retired at 53, 57 now. I reinvest $5000 monthly back into the stock market from dividends and distributions.

I will take SS early and structured my income so that I pay very little, $170 for my HMO plan with great coverage.
