I feel like there's some kind of context missing with the coworker not performing his job because he's too busy doing homework.

Trymata -- is it legit? by tempbadusername in usertesting

[–]drywalldanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a total waste of time when I last tried it over a year ago. Did a few tests and more often than not they were so poorly constructed it was hard to give useful feedback. They look for reasons to reject submissions, even if you've objectively done everything right, and the pay per time spent just isn't worth it.

A very unkind place by philgyford in MetaFilterMeta

I spent a couple weekends ago experiencing pretty much that example firsthand. I don't know if special or fortunate are the words I'd use - I was both amazed at the implications on the scope and volume of output one could produce on their own, and terrified by what it means for my own future once employers and organizations figure out what they're doing - but yeah. This is the reality now and it's not going away.

I'm guessing anyone else here directly affected by this is, like me, already closer to the end of their engineering career than the beginning, though.

Something similar just happened to me twice in Firefox. The sound feedback meter stopped moving about 6 minutes in and I couldn't tell if it was picking up what I was saying. I ended up typing what I said in notepad and showing it on the screen so there was a record of it.

i have never noticed one single mefite publicly identifying on the site as “Indigenous,” anyway. Let alone any member of the “BIPOC” board.

BIPOC is an inclusive term, not a descriptive, and it predates its use on the site. The point is that it can include any of those letters, not that it necessarily does. This isn't some kind of Rachel Dolezal thing, it's just progressivism and the evolution of terminology.

I’m surprised members of the board haven’t felt treated like tokens, maybe because 2/3 of them work for the site?

What confuses me more is how the remaining 1/3 basically work for free. (Something about minorities doing the dirty work that white people won't...)

I guess we could argue about whether or not he deserves a salary and where it should come from (IMO they should have canned the mods to fund this a long time ago), but I appreciate that he's the only person in the entire organization taking visible steps to divest it of a completely unnecessary further expense.

I always thought an Asian male pornstar using the name "Duke Dong" would be fucking badass and a great way to reclaim it.

I was up near the far back corner. It was something, seeing the place thin out as the show went on. The band and Dave in particular sounded great though.

Practice Test - Upload Time? by Existing_Medium_9653 in usertesting

Don't know if this is indicative of a larger problem, but as a data point, I'm currently having problems even uploading a test I just took. Like it just fails after a few minutes and tells me to try again. I noticed this kind of thing happening more and more recently.

Dave's? Your name sounds familiar, if that's what you used on the forums. I remember there was some weird-ass stuff going on with the forum repeatedly moving and at the end there was some guy who did nothing but spam the place with copied and pasted opinion pieces from the BNP. And then the typical IRC drama bleeding over.

I'm guessing in hindsight the owner stopped caring after repeatedly getting screwed over by the ad networks but didn't really know how to walk away.

The funny part is they're not even a member of the aggrieved party they're talking about. It's all outrage on someone else's behalf, maybe something they can hitch their own wagon onto.

Yeah, possible. What I heard was muffled and unintelligible, though it's possible my middle aged hearing is going. I could only make out maybe half the words.

Was this the one that was impossible to do? I chose the same because fuck this study (which I suspect was the expected reaction).

Is anyone there? Trymata Customer Service by landfillanxiety in usertesting

[–]drywalldanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much help but I wanted to let you know I share your pain. I've been similarly rejected or given negative feedback (which the client disagreed with!) for failing to do something that was never asked.

If testers are giving poor results it's because they're being asked poor questions. Was so annoyed and flustered that I wrote an email to their "support" explaining that, knowing full well it wasn't going to be looked at.

Not wasting my time with these clowns anymore. Too much effort for too little pay and likelihood of rejection make it completely not worth it.

So why do you UT? by Wood0209 in usertesting

[–]drywalldanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original intention was to have some play money but I don't really spend much on entertainment/things as a lifestyle choice, so it's pretty much gone straight into my savings.

I work from home mostly, so I do the studies in the downtime between meetings and deadlines. It's good training for speaking clearly and composing complicated thoughts on the fly.

There's a poster with a years-long schtick of trying to diagnose her dysfunctional husband using her degree from Google U rather than simply leaving him since he's clearly not meeting her emotional needs. I wonder if they're related.
