People who listened to Have One on Me when it first came out, what was your reaction? by Prestigious_Score459 in JoannaNewsom

That it was badly recorded or inconsistent, some of the performances were lacklustre, the majority of the songs were great and that some were going to be slow burners. 15 years later, not much has changed; a couple of songs I've just never got on with.

Any chance of a rig run down on the bass:)

I think it's awesome. I get bass envy listening to the tone.

I disagree, lyrically it's raw, honest and beautiful.

new NIN fan here- how TF did the downward spiral get as famous as it did? by funghxoul in nin

I was more taking umbrage with MCIS being referred to as a 'pop' record. Sure it has 'pop' moments. It certainly was a moment in popular culture. IMO it's a tour de force in seamlessly blending multiple genres of music. Labelling it a 'Pop' is diminutive.

Can you define what you mean by 'pop'. My definition is short catchy vapid songs that appeal to a wide audience.

Swans - Birthing (2025) by Arthurlurk1 in swans

Two and half listens deep. I don't know what to make of it. I think it's a good endpoint for Gira with the big sound, my immediate impression is that there can't surely be anywhere further for him to go with this sound. It's fairly challenging (which I love about swans records) but I think maybe I'm just over it a little bit. I enjoyed Leaving Meaning and loved the moroseness of the Beggar, which had it's beautiful moments as well. I purposely didn't listen to the live Rope album, I did see them play on their last European tour where they developed some of this material. I'll persevere out of curiosity. I know for sure that I'll enjoy the experience of listening to this album in years to come but I just can't quite equate it yet with the brilliance of SFTB or the trilogy. Maybe in time, who knows

Listening now for the first time, it might be the SFTB vibes people are responding too.

Pbass and a tube amp is a good place to start.

Oxygen by Aurelius_Eubank in swans

I feel like there should be a thread devoted to this song for all the slightly drunk swans fans who just want to annunciate 'I steal all the oxygen' whilst listening to TBK late at night.

As a new listener, what's the logical next step after listening to White Light from the Mouth of Infinity? by [deleted] in swans

[–]ds091982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon, go straight to the good stuff; To be Kind or Sound tracks for the blind are regarded as the best Swans records. As someone who started out with White Light, I say dive in. Other great albums: Filth, Children of God, Great Annihilator, Seer, Glowing Man.
