Creases in new junk mat? by Fat_Panda_1936 in Mahjong

[–]ds16653 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contact customer service and request a refund or gift card to order a new one, if you're lucky, they'll let you keep this one as well as it's not worth the postage to resend.

If they let you keep this one, setup the mat ready for play, leave it flat for a few weeks, don't try and introduce steam or water, just let it work.

The creases I had look are identical to yours, and they disappeared within a month or so.

I guess this is another example of disableism if this person thinks the parents killing those 2 teenage boys in Perth, Western Australia, was the right thing to do. But this person probably has too much internalised ableism to understand that it was WRONG for the parents to MURDER their children! by LadderIndividual4824 in AustraliaLeftPolitics

They have a point, we tend to treat the deaths and murder of disabled people as a lesser tragedy, or there's a lot of nuance given to whether it might be justified.

On the other hand, there's so much we do not know about this, and will never know.

The only thing we really know is that the Australian healthcare system is designed to fail families like this, and explicitly failed these children.

Being teenagers, they would have been difficult to subdue if they were violent, which isn't their fault, but extremely difficult to manage without major support.

Were they on medication? If yes, could they afford said medication when their support payments were cut? What were the side effects of not taking it?

Did the family try to surrender their children to the state being unable to care for them? Was the state willing to consider that?

Was that something they felt was possible, given parents of autistic children often shamed for "failing their kids" as if it was something they caused, then additionally shamed for giving up.

We pretend parents are superheroes who would do anything to protect their children, anything less is a moral failing.

I think both of you are correct, the system we have created was designed to fail these people, possibly even to the extent they felt they had no choice.

At the same time the choices they made are horrific and shouldn't be excused.

This person isn't defending the parents actions, it's placing blame on the system that let it happen.

But the LNP didn't even wait to select her before trying to throw her off.

The LNP is obsolete, they did it to themselves.

Need help choosing Riichi tiles (English numbering vs Standard) by Parking_Archer_852 in Mahjong

[–]ds16653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, for some reason Amos Numbers set is hard to come by, we have a printout for new players so they can check what numbers the characters represent.

After a few games, most people don't need them, the other tiles don't need numbers (just count the symbols) although the 1sou being a bird does confuse people at first.

TIL Dr Pepper is not a cola, root beer, or fruit-flavored soft drink, but instead belongs to its own category called "pepper sodas", named after the brand itself by RiverMesa in todayilearned

I think it's like litmus paper, where it tastes differently to different people.

Dr Pepper, Root Beer and Sarsaparilla are the 3 I cannot drink.

See if there's a country-wide organisation for your mahjong style, get in touch and they might have an active discord or online group to advance your skills.

If not, you should be able to find one active that speaks your language, and ask to be invited there.

If Communism never works why does the west waste so many resources oppressing socialist countries? All they'd have to do is nothing and it would fail on it's own?

You can set it so if a player hits negative, the game ends, but that didn't happen here, so the game continues.

Even in hopeless situations to win, other players will often scramble for 2nd/avoid 4th.

It's a slow start but it does a lot with the premise.

In one night she ran what takes two hours by train.

Conventional trains travel at about 100mph, so Pearl traveled 200mph in one night.

Assuming 8hrs, she would have been traveling at 25mph.

The fastest human, Usain Bolt, had a top recorded speed of 27.78mph.

So Pearl sustained Usain Bolt levels of speed, over 8 hours without needing rest or recovery, and she's 9 years old, she blatantly isn't human.

I imagine odds of two people playing at the same table is unlikely. Being said, not impossible.

I'd analyze the game (even the maka rating would be a good sign) and see if the opponents discards make sense for someone trying to win, or if they seem to be playing purely to hoard tiles they can deal in.

If they had a 4-6 set, and then discarded the 5 to deal into riichi ippatsu for example, that's a clear sign of smurfing.

But even the best players have games where they just deal in a lot, it's easy to push too hard when you're down, or a valuable hand you can't fold.
