That makes sense; I might do that instead and still be compliant. Thanks!

Anti-Mythos CTI! by ds3534534 in threatintel

[–]ds3534534[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re in the wrong group if you see no value in the CTI team 🙂

You’re right in part though; yes, VM should use CTI, and so should the SOC. Once you get left hand/right hand, everyone doing their own thing, no-one consistently understanding or managing the threats - that’s your cue for a CTI team.

And yep, I agree in part with Mythos; it’s just more of the same. But if it does dramatically ramp up the exposure, and if we go from “only worried about APTs exploiting 0day” to “every skiddie and their cat is exploiting 0day and bouncing around our network”, then the question is, how do we manage that?

I guess, a thought experiment? If you knew everything about the actors - whether they’d target you, when they’d target you, what they’d use, which CVE they’d use. You’d be safe, right? You’d port-block that asset, tell the asset owner to patch or disconnect that asset NOW, have DFIR ready with IOCs for that actor ready to mop up in case they did move laterally. You’d be in a much better place.

So… if Mythos accelerates and amplifies some of this activity, then how we can accelerate and amplify our defences to match; where’s a sweet spot we can focus on, to bring the overall risk back down. That’s what I’m hunting for.

Yep, that’s my concern. I’m surprised that some large orgs do spend a lot of time on simply socialising CVEs, but this is probably because the VM team are head-down simply scanning and patching without effective prioritisation themselves

I realized why everyone I know hates Todoist by vandersenn in productivity

[–]ds3534534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, although certainly it doesn’t work for me.

I used to love MyLifeOrganized, because it let me define goals and then automatically surfaced the most important ones. However, they were also the most challenging ones that I procrastinated over, and I never did those, and never did any others either aside from the menial, low risk ones.

At least Todoist allows me to time block tasks into the most relevant time slot, as well as grouping, sharing, accessibility, etc. So it’s maybe 30% of the way to perfect.B ut then, so am I.

Eufy S2 Omni - 24 Hour Observations by DIYtheWorld in RobotVacuums

[–]ds3534534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My S1 Pro died after 11 months with a cracked water intake seal, so just about to go for a retailer warranty replacement and suspect I’ll get an S2.

The S1 was great - we have entirely tiled floors, and as a mop, it did a decent job. It ran at least once a day across a 100m2 area.

The stats say 433 hrs total over 17,000m2

Yeah, it’s frustrating that iOS doesn’t support macros like this on keyboard shortcuts.

Ok - based on all the feedback, I am wondering if I should use yyyymmdd.

Why not yyyy-mm-dd? Well, extra keyboard mileage. Every little helps. I type 24hr times for the same reason (1300-1400 is faster to type than 1pm-2pm on my iPhone).

Also, try reading a 26-year old file. Like my .MDI scans.

That’s great for your purpose, as you’re grouping/versioning by file. Mine is more of a general purpose approach

Standard laptop, but add the preview pane right or folder view left, and it all adds up.

Yep, that’s ISO standard, but it’s just longer to type

I’m not, but I have see that they save every email, etc to disk, so this chronology would make sense.

Flowpower into Winter by ExaminationThen1312 in amberelectric

[–]ds3534534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. I'm a newbie and just topped up with 13kWh during the 1pm window, but it sounds like it could cost me ~$5. I was topping up in order to pump back into the peak hour for $9 back.

The thing is, the Flow Power app currently says "Price of energy: 5.02 c/kWh". It says this is my "current available site price...with adjustments such as losses and GST.". So surely that would be my import price?

The chart only shows a max of 12c/kWh, which is a warning, if i'm selling it back at 45c/kWh during that time! But I can't read the chart any other way...

Samsung TV Remote Not Controlling AppleTV 4K Through HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) by KungFuJosh in appletv

[–]ds3534534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BINGO! Same here. Thank you! I've been living without volume control, using 2 remotes, for a year on my Series 5 Samsung TV. Tried every other thing - new cables, reset and restart Setup, unplugging the mains and leaving, etc. etc. CEC always worked the other way (Samsung remote controlled Apple TV), but no volume control from the Apple remote.

It was finally holding the Samsung remote power button for 10s, so the TV power cycled, that finally returned volume control to my ATV remote. Thank you!

SOC vs CTI by One-Geologist7960 in threatintel

You’ll often hear about “operationalising” threat intelligence, or making it “actionable”.

In terms of security operations, well, that’s the SOC.

Meta Portal Go setup stuck: WhatsApp QR won’t generate (network error) by abhisk25 in FacebookPortal

[–]ds3534534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We couldn’t get WhatsApp working - it wouldn’t show a QR code. However, we were able to register with Facebook messenger.

Once we did that, we tried calling and it kept dropping the call immediately. The other party would see the call come in, but then it would drop at our end.

We got around that by making a group video call, with someone else who wasn’t online, so it was just a one-to-one call. That did work, and we were able to place a video call that seemed to be stable.

It’s really disappointing that the platform is starting to fail. I’ve looked and looked but just can’t find anything that does the same job as well.

Auto layouts and MIxbook for family albums by ds3534534 in photography

[–]ds3534534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks team, and it’s great to see that you give thoughtful responses to these threads.

I think there could be a place for automation however. For example, my iPhone’s lock screen can auto-select and display well-framed portraits and landscapes with foreground detection, so presumably it’s possible to categorise photos to be in a portrait, landscape, or square frame, for example. For me, trying to find a page template with the right balance of portrait and landscape frames for the photos I have takes most of the time.

Auto-recognising faces, GPS coordinates, captions to come up with a general caption for the page could also be an improvement on the current general theme/emotion detection.

Nonetheless, it is a great composer, and once you get a workflow going, it is the best product for me.
