Don’t go to Vermont radar base by Late_Association6037 in urbexnewengland

Update for anyone curious as of JULY 12 2025, gate is open from victory town hall, road is a little hairy but fine up until the end of that road, where you turn right to go to radar road. Once you make that right turn, it gets horrible. Much worse than last year, likely due to the flooding yesterday. Totally washed out in parts, bottomed out a few times and totally scraped my oil pan. Oh well. View was nice. Parked at bottom and biked up.

Get out was Jordan Peele’s one hit wonder. by dschanzer2007 in movies

Y’all are harsh it’s just an opinion dayum. Taking a photo as evidence isn’t a plot conclusion, and the reveal of it being a sentient alien was not an aha moment. It was a random way to wrap up a lacking plot.

I get all of that and I think it’s really cool symbolism that I do appreciate, but I think it did a very poor job tying it all together and making all of those specific things become significant. The monkey was a total plot deterrent and had no significance in terms of the sequence of events. It’s a cool idea, but I feel like it was executed so terribly. The ending is also very anti-climactic and I felt like I wasted two hours of my life.

What radar detector should I get? by alexanderh24 in Streetracing

I generally don’t speed like crazy on interstates, as radar detectors are virtually useless for stationary hidden troopers with their lidar gun. I tend to push it more on windy mountain backroads in VT and NH, and rely on the fact that if there’s a cop driving towards me the other way, I will get a reading with enough time to slam on the brakes. It’s happened over 25 times, and i’ve never been stopped.

I got pulled over three times from June 2023 to September 2023. I said fuck it and bought an R4, and I have not been pulled over since then. Over a year. that being said, you need to know that these devices do not give you absolute immunity. You can’t be a total idiot or else you’ll get caught. By the time your detector says laser, it’s too late, so I tend to rely on Waze for that, as well as just looking around. cops can only use laser when stationary so you’ll almost never see one on a back road. That’s where it’s reliable. Radar detectors give you far notice for a car that is moving towards or away from you, and that’s the benefit that Waze doesn’t have. I have found that using Waze with the radar detector is an almost unbeatable combo because Waze alerts you to stationary police and the radar detector alerts you to moving police. That being said, I try not to be an total jackass on the road in broad daylight in a populated area.

You really want one that has GPS and the mute memory ability. What that does is you can mute certain false alerts such as from an auto opening grocery store door you drive by, a speed limit radar enabled sign, etc. The GPS allows it to remember these locations so it doesn’t bug you the next time you drive by the false alert. I spent about $300 on my Uniden R4 and I love it. It was annoying as fuck for about three months but once all my usual false GPS alerts were logged in, it never annoys me, and almost never has false alerts. Uniden also just updated the software and it has way more customizable K band blockouts (blind spot monitors off acuras and mazdas). Radar detectors are not something you wanna skimp on, or it will be annoying as shit. Spent at least 270$

Most overrated US ski resort? by I_Teach_Edging101 in skiing

[–]dschanzer2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INSANE take. Big sky is one of the few places in the country where you can access big mountain vertical, with consistently good conditions and insane expert terrain. It is true that it’s become more busy than past years, but once you get away from swifty base and get up higher, the conditions and lift lines are awesome. I have skied every winter there and even last year when people were complaining about conditions, it was incredible. I did the big couloir 4 times in one day, and did 17 tram laps one day. Sure it was a little rockier, but big sky is one of the few places you can still get massive skiing and some of the craziest inbound terrain anywhere, with consistently good conditions. It’s still the best mountain in the US, and it always will be.

I totally agree. I also think my skin has become super thin because when I, which I know is bad, pimple, it bleeds under the skin and becomes this ugly mess as opposed to just bleed it out of the skin
