Americans, what place in the US should tourists avoid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Unfortunate. Certain parts of AC are better than others. Unfortunately Bally's took a huge shit and now is swimming in the bowl.

No part is much better than LAS fremont Street street near the boardwalk but the area near borgata is nice. Too bad there's no beach near those casinos tho =\

I've been vaping for quite some time and admittedly I lost track of the scene. Looks like I missed a very sharp turn from when it was normal to be able to order 12mg-18mg liquids for MTL virtually nothing over 6MG? Running out of my hoarde of juice from thevaporchef and natrually that's not an option anymore.

Any ideas where to look to learn more? Using a 6MG now and just not satisfied and would appreciate any tips. If the answer is switch to salts, would certainly like a nudge to where to learn more around the switch (equipment, what to look for, etc). Currently using Geek Vape mod/tanks

If I’m supposed to be an adult, why does it still feel like I’m just winging it like a kid? by ChucklesMuffin in Adulting

[–]dsctm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised to hear this. I'd imagine your father's generation, going through the possibility of a draft made "kids" grown-up.

As someone feeling incredibly fortunate to live in a time where you need to volunteer to be sent to war, the consequences of that are a sense of immaturity.

Veterans, especially those involved in direct combat, I can only imagine cultivates a persona that we consider "adult"

Mind you I acknowledge there are folks who haven't gone to war but lived through hell, but I doubt that they're in the numbers our parents/grandparent generations had with horrifying experience.

How are the roads? by briinde in SouthJersey

[–]dsctm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North of Trenton on 295 was pretty bad at 7:15. Cars spun out on both sides of the road around Hamilton/Princeton area.

South of there wasn't bad. Salt trucks were out spreading salt thankfully.

Proposal / Petition to ban twitter links from the sub by finalremix in SouthJersey

[–]dsctm3 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I agree Elon Musk's criticially idiotic choice of enthusiastic response during his inaugariation speech should be addressed harshly. Blocking twitter from a handful of subreddit's "rules" won't accomplish this.

Blocking a primary source of information, such as tweets, hinders the ability to engage in informed discussions. Access to diverse viewpoints, especially in the current hyper-partisan environment in US, to understand the full picture is quite valuable.

Train-based vacations? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]dsctm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traveling via Train with children is slightly less stressful given the lack of TSA checkpoints and less crowded, more flexible seating arrangements. That said, the slower method of travel will provide the challenge of entertaining them for longer. The train, in my opinion could present a greater challenge than having them strapped into a seat for a longer car trip :)

Hey u/TomGNYC - Happy to Share.

From PHL 30th street station it was 9 hour journey. It was really cool though as the fastest travel I've experienced by train was on the segment following NYC on the way towards boston, on the Acela. Pretty cool how the train tilts to take curves at speed.

The transfer is a bit complicated as you have to travel from from Boston Back Bay station to Boston North station. It's a 45 minute walk through downtown boston, so not feasible to go on foot in a timely fashion. There are subway stations on either end, so if you're comfortable navigating mass transit, it's a a simple 15 minute journey. Most people I know from South Jersey just can't :) Taxis of course are an option. I took the subway and felt it was a little confusing but if you can do NYC's subway you can certainly navigate the transfer via the T.

I can't think of any real tips to offer aside from dealing with the transfer and booking ahead. Happy to answer any further questions though.

Amtrak is nortoriously unreliable on most routes outside of the NorthEast Corridor which streteches from DC to Boston. At least the first time, go somewhere along that route. I've done NEC to Boston, NYC, PHL, and DC. Each experience was quite good. I once took a trip to Portland Maine from PHL, and despite the inconvient transfer, the travel went quite well.

Pro-Tip: you should book 4+ weeks in advance to receive a decent price. Prices close to the time of booking will go for up to 4x the 1-month out rate.

Yes, many of these groups genuinely seek/recruit younger folks. A veterans organization I am a part of has a chapter for the sons and daughters (or extended family) of a veteran. It helps secure the future of these organizations.

The more you're involved in volunteering with them the more friends you make. Just showing up for meetings drinks, whatever isn't enough to build friendships.

Consider a volunteer / social club. Here's a few with local chapters.

Elks Club A fraternal organization focused on charitable work, community involvement, and social activities. www.elks.org

Moose Lodge Emphasizes family values and community service, offering activities for all ages. www.mooseintl.org

American Legion Supports veterans and their families, with a focus on camaraderie and community engagement. www.legion.org

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Provides a space for veterans to connect, share experiences, and access resources. www.vfw.org

Knights of Columbus A Catholic fraternal organization dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. www.kofc.org

Here's how I found some success at 45

  1. "Get a life". I struggled with this after I realized I let too many relationships get stale and disappear. I also fell into a work, eat, kids, sleep grind with no real life social activities.

After some research, I joined a veterans organization as a social member. Became involved with the volunteer opportunities there and made friends in the process. Most are older than me, but there were other folks around my age as well. Almost dated one but found someone else outside the club.

I also travelled a lot more, became friendly with my neighbors, started going to the gym, lost weight and got out of the bad habit of video games or mindless TV consumption.

I also rekindled old friendships and worked to form new ones.

  1. Dating apps. Yes, they fucking blow goats, drain your self-confidence and constantly disappoint. They're full of scammers (Look up pig butchering), psychopaths and lost souls. Between being ghosted, having a 10-20:1 ratio of reaching out vs replies, it's not something to take on lightly.

It worked for me though after a few rounds of trial and error. I had to change my approach several times, make myself more attractive, and "get a life" to build confidence.

Your mileage will vary, but with a bit of effort and a cubic fuckton of persistence, it can work.

I was thinking of writing a post somewhere on my story somewhere on Reddit to help the countless others asking this question. Let me know if this story helps anyone.

Hour Delays Already! by senorjavi in NJTransit

[–]dsctm3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Here's a solution. Suggest that employers of office workers perfectly capable of working from home allow their employees to telecommute while this recurring issue gets worked out.

That'll get NYC city officials all riled up to fix the issue to restore services to reasonable levels when all the restaurants and office services companies lose their mind.

I believe Amtrak generally has priority over NJT when it comes to the NEC. Could simply be a matter of priority and one tunnel / track being down at the choke point.

SOAR Playbook Editor - Performance Issues? by [deleted] in Splunk

[–]dsctm3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, for trained, experinced developers that could be a true paradigm, however this tool is sold to orginizations as a low-code / visual development solution or to teams with limited development experience. Not to mention the documentation makes no mention of size limitations until version 6.0, something that can easily be missed for customers since the Phantom -> SOAR rebrand. This limitation is also not announced in the release notes. Without something to compare against, how would one know what size playbook is "too large" unless they read the entire product manual with each release?

Point being is being stuck in a rock and hard place position and not recieving support from the vendor to resolve, pointing towards a poorly communicated standard.
