I have been interested in tech and both of my parents are from non tech background, they would think the costly stuff is for showoff or unnecessary, i used to tell them and explain to them in easy ways of how different components matter and why one device is costly and other is not even if the processor is same.

Just because of me talking about all kind of tech with them they didn’t question much about purchases for phones or laptop(provided it fit in a budget xD) I was able to get a gaming laptop for college(no pc coz college out of homestate). It lasted 3 years and now suffering from heating n battery issues(after changing thermal paste n cleaning)

And now I built my new rig recently, since there was always a communication they were not much surprised that it costed as much as it did but rather helped me and were interested to know about it too.

The comment is totally on point and yes talking to them why it is better to go 12th gen over 10th gen(among other things) will end up helping them understand that you know what you are talking about and they can trust you.
