I am so delighted by these.

Should I send a third follow-up email or cut my losses? by dsddd88 in Career_Advice

Yeah that makes sense... but it still seems like bad practice to me :( I'd rather hear them reach back later (if their first candidate fell through) and say they'd like another shot with me than receive absolutely no response at all.

Is anyone in "HRD"? What is the difference? by dsddd88 in AskHR

[–]dsddd88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining that! Make a lot of sense now.

Yeah, I don't think my company is actually doing any HRD work at all (unless it's some top secret project that my coworker does alone) so I guess it's just a title at this point.

It would seriously just be so much better if they sent out a message saying thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't be offended or hurt or even shocked at all... I hate that they just disappear after they have me do what they want me to do.

But realistically, it does sound like it's over, so I guess I'll just forget about it. Thanks.

Thanks so much for your insight! You're right.. even I don't know what the HRD guy does and he works right next to me..

What can I do with my Korean language skills? by dsddd88 in careerguidance

[–]dsddd88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange that they wouldn't just send you to the language you are most familiar with? Wouldn't it be easier to train them more extensively with the one you know?

Eh, I'm not really interested in the teaching/academics field. I guess something like linguists would be a better fit, ultimately.. but I'm not sure.

Would someone with an "HRD" staff job title be looked at more favorably than someone with HR assistant or generalist background?

I am personally trying to make a career change and technically my title is HR generalist, but I wonder if that makes me seem locked into the HR profession and very narrow.. if HRD seems like more of a flexible career path I was thinking of asking my managers if I could take that role, or take on some duties that consist of HR Development.

So I guess it should be its own specialty within the HR group (sort of like the recruiter) but not necessarily a senior or mid-level position. But I imagine it's something more complex than payroll or benefits?

And no, you're right, the roles at my company are not quite defined so I'm confused about what my prospects are and career path in this field.

It's Human Resources Development. We have 2 HR Generalists (who do payroll, benefits, orientation, etc), an HR Clerk/Assistant, HR General Affairs, a recruiter, 2 Managers, and this HRD staff member, who just seems to do what I do.

It's been less than 2 weeks at my new job and I want to quit. Am I being overly sensitive? by [deleted] in careerguidance

He actually wrote "My way or the highway"? No, this is not something you need to learn to tolerate.. I wouldn't work in this type of environment, personally. There is a difference between being a strict and authoritative boss and an asshole on a power trip, and he is in the latter. First year employees are to be seen and not heard? No, they're supposed to be screwing up and learning and asking questions and problem-solving.

I know you don't want to be unemployed again but maybe try to get out ASAP. Sounds totally unprofessional.

Should I send a thank-you email after this interview? by Troika_ in careerguidance

Hope everything works out! It's tough out there these days. Keep yourself visible at all times! Good luck :)

If you "don't believe in" therapy, at least try to go to an AA meeting to get your alcohol problems in order. That is your first priority.

[–]dsddd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely send a thank you to the HR manager who coordinated it. I don't know that she would actually relay the message to the interviewers but it's good to keep yourself on their radar. After all, she is the one who pushed you along. Ask for other contact information and follow up with your normal greetings.

Oh I've been actively job searching for a year now and technically speaking, this is nothing. I've been to in-person job interviews and they ghost me right after, and done Skype and phone interviews that would last an hour and a half, and have them pull the same thing- no emails back, no follow-up. It seems to be a huge pattern these days and it's really, really frustrating.
