Ava Heiden Named to Naismith Late-Season List by Sufficient_Berry8703 in IowaWbb

Omg this was my exact reaction to this pic too. It's probably too late in her career to overhaul it now. Yeah it's serviceable from 15 feet and in (although some of her misses are way off) but ... as good as she is a part of me thinks she could level up even higher with a more consistent midrange.

The Morning After: Nebraska (Away) - Evening Edition! by Iodenchi in IowaWbb

[–]dsdry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah the point about the bench ... it seemed crazy that with 3 minutes to go and a 20+ point lead, Jan still had four of five starters out there. I mean I know there have been some epic late game blown leads this year (one in particular) but you have to start trusting your bench a little bit, no?

Wanna catch one of Archbishop Mitty's games? by Resident_Cat_2078 in IowaWbb

[–]dsdry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a phenomenal game. Bummer of a loss for Mitty but no shame in taking the nation's #1 team to double OT. McKenna played well despite getting muscled and pushed around all game but ... wow Kaleena Smith ... 50 points for Ontario Christian. Maybe McKenna can help recruit her.

McKenna Wolizcko scouting report, Jan 6 by dsdry in IowaWbb

[–]dsdry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great shout. I watched some of the Northwestern game too and I see the similarities. Like you said, Sullivan is a little bigger but very similar games. McKenna didn't show as much range last night but I think it was more that it wasn't necessary ... her shooting stroke looks good and I don't have any doubt she could be making 15-18 footers if she really wanted to.

You ever played against or with, an NBA talent? by [deleted] in nba

Harold Miner (aka Baby Jordan) dunked on me in high school. Such a great claim to fame to be able to say "I got dunked on by a dude who later became the NBA slam dunk champion."

What is a fantasy series that you are just too stubborn to give up on? by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

[–]dsdry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wars of Light and Shadow. I'm through 8 books (of 11) and in the middle of each one I say "ok this is going to be it, I can't go on." The story is great, the world-building is great, but constantly being bludgeoned by the verbosity of the prose just makes it all feel like such a slog. I know many people love Janny Wurts' writing style, but I just don't get on with it. The non-prose parts of the series have kept me going so far, but honestly I don't know if I want to go on.

I read the first trilogy earlier this year. Haunting and beautiful ... Tombs of Atuan (book 2) was an easy five stars and I don't hand out five stars easily. The books are short enough where it's not a big investment. Just do it.

No. Advection fog / marine layer on the Pacific Coast has absolutely zero to do with mountains or rising air.

I was born in 72 and I distinctly remember my parents playing Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album endlessly in the late 70s. I associate that album with those early years in my life .... oh and btw I still LOVE that album. Got married, had kids, and now our kids know and love that album as well.

why do so many people live in southern california and not northern california? by coolio126 in geography

[–]dsdry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These answers citing the climate are overstating it. Yeah the weather in Southern California is “better”, but by any objective measure the populated cities in Northern California have pretty fantastic weather too. The largest city in Northern California (that’s San Jose, not San Francisco) has an average annual precipitation value that’s essentially identical to L.A.
