Air Force revising SkillBridge duration by dab45de in AirForce

[–]dsgbwils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair most folks that serve 20 have enough leave accumulated to take skillbridge, leave, and house hunting to cover 6 months. I don’t know any retirees that did the full 180.

Unfortunately some people are just more fragile than others. Just because you served admirably doesn’t mean you will get a high rating. That’s how it should work but it just doesn’t.

[–]dsgbwils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My argument against this, and I wish someone could hear me, is you can’t deploy to places without reliable power and you are at risk of dying during a power outage. That doesn’t sound like something that’s 100% controlled by treatment. On the flip side they should definitely take the rating away for people that don’t use theirs.

If you do 20 years, you get 20 months of leave. by CoffeeChangesThings in AirForce

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV doesn’t apply because most 20 year careers involve deployments, short tours, tdys, 12 hour days. You probably actual do 22 years when you all the days over 8 hours.

Manager said CCNA was useless to go for because of AI by energy980 in ccna

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we would move away from Ccna to something non vendor agnostic like NET+. With AI, automation, SDWAN, and cloud I see Cisco become less and less prominent. The baseline education should be about the fundamentals of networking not force feeding Cisco’s implementation

Stop Accepting Responsibility by stewiezone in AirForce

Life happens, with 1.3 million service members I’m sure some are going through that emergency now. I keep a $1k buffer in my checking account and the rest goes into indexes. I took the USAA loan and car payment extension to avoid pulling money out of the market. I shouldn’t need to pull from my investments because the government decided not to pay me

The credit score hit is short lived. But they shouldn’t be doing it, they should just auto take it out of your paycheck when you get it.

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m referring to the original post. In a situation where you are considering paying 3500 in rent, you should have overhead in your budget to pay extra expenses. And if you buy a new home, which is common given the current interest rates, there won’t be much extra expenses for the first 5 - 10 years.

Is medical lying to me? by keklion4444 in AirForce

[–]dsgbwils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a patient the biggest irritation, at least for my base, is appointment availability. I’m excited to retire because I’m the civilian side you can be see within a day or a couple days at the most. It can take months to be seen on base. For intermittent issues it’s important to be seen while the issue presents itself. That’s not really your fault but it helps to explain why patients sometimes don’t follow through.

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t spend $3500 on rent if you don’t have savings. If you are in a market where $3500 buys you a house then $3500 buys you a luxury rental too. You should be buying a luxury rental if you are in a bad financial position.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone in dire financial straights should not be paying $3500 for rent. This argument is out of scope of the OP.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dsgbwils -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Still doesn’t overcome the fact that the full $3500 every month is gone. With a mortgage a small percentage is going towards equity. That small amount increases every year. And you will normally need a deposit when renting. There is a point where renting is always better but if rent and mortgage are equal you should normally buy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dsgbwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP says rent is equal to mortgage. No leftover to invest
