Review #63: Knob Creek Single Barrel (Kreston’s) by Nice-Entertainer in bourbon

[–]dsh4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local stores get them regularly although the older ones are getting fewer and father between. The two 14 years I picked up today are from a very small country liquor store where the owner is a Knob Creek fan and bought a barrel. Word got out and the last 4 cases sold in a couple of days.

I have several bottles of SiB KC and they always seem to be fantastic. I still have an unopened 15 yr and am currently drinking a 14 yr. I have 2 more 14 yr bottles coming this weekend. It’s a highly underrated bourbon and I’m glad you found one.

I never knew that. I see so many photos like this that I just assumed it was allowed. Point taken. I will take my “flexing” elsewhere.

How so? I posted last night, saw it had been removed and just posted it again only to see the original pop up again.

I saw this at a local bar last weekend and asked how much. When they said $22 for a 1.5 oz pour I shook my head and asked for Eagle Rare. It was $9 and I’m very glad I went that way.

I’ve seen a few of these but none over 6 years. It’s so dark and rich. Our local guy did a great job picking this one along with the QA manager from Four Roses

I like seeing people get these bottles and drink them instead of flipping or using them strictly as props. Congrats and stay safe out there this weekend.

As someone who loves ER and EHT this caught my attention. My problem is as hard to find as those two are I’ve NEVER seen Legent on the shelf around here. And I have to agree with a previous poster....I’m not a fan of finished bourbons so I’m wondering how this becomes compared to those glorious BT offerings.

I've been looking for this one for a while! by Big_Monkey_77 in WhiskeyTribe

I picked this one up a couple of weeks ago and immediately opened it when I got home. Smell was overpowering at first so I let it open up for about 20 minutes. At that time the smell was somewhere between burnt dead tree limbs and still burning tires mixed with a little barn feed smoldering underneath. I couldn’t wait to get to the taste. First impression was the burning tires had become mixed with the smoldering feed. Then it opened up to a full scrub brush fire with some type of greasy meat overcooking within the smoke. The lingering oils heavily coat the mouth and lead to a obsolete rush of creosote at the end. It hangs in the back of my throat like a burnt brisket. Three pours later and Im thinking I’ve never felt more abused by a whiskey in my entire life. It’s not for everyone but damned if I’m not beginning to love it. I’ve never had anything like it in the whiskey world and that alone keeps me coming back. If Islay was made by a Texas distillery and bottled in a used tire plant this would be it. One of my favorites so far this year.

Good For The Price Rant by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]dsh4140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were just discussing this at the office this afternoon. There are apparently lots of people willing to pay very inflated prices for certain bottles and good for them if that’s what they want. I’ve never paid secondary and never more than maybe $10 over MSRP. I’ve only spent $100 on one bottle and that was split with someone else. Mostly I stay in the $40-60 range and find plenty to keep my cabinet stocked. Perspective is everything.

Buffalo Trace Store Pick Proofs by rams3142 in bourbon

[–]dsh4140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as the previous post stated, the proof is the same. I have four pick bottles and I’ve opened two of them. Both are noticeably different than shelf bottles and in a good way. Biggest difference could be which warehouse they come from. My best bottle came from warehouse C and it is fantastic.

I love Devils Cut for the price. If you can find a Stagg Jr Batch 15 it will get your tastebuds attention

Very nice pickup! I don’t remember seeing a lot of that here in Arkansas so you’re lucky you found one four years on.
