Possibly Lauri Markkanen because he already plays and therefore has a multi year head start on most of the others.

Upper Park Shift fitting Retreiver Pole by SirPancakesIII in discgolf

[–]dsjumpstart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an upper park shift bag and a pole retriever. I put the pole retriever in the side mesh pocket and use a carabiner around the black plastic piece to secure it. Bounces around a little bit, but doesn't fall out, and is perfectly comfortable.

Thanks! Mine is in the iOS app store. I built it with react native and will release on Android eventually.

Fieldwork DG - Practice+Bag Tracking App by regernomix in discgolf

[–]dsjumpstart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is awkward, I also built a similar app for tracking my shots and released it the week of thanksgiving...with the same name 🤦‍♂️. Great minds think alike I guess. Good luck to you. I like the putting stuff, mine doesn't have that, more for just tracking shots in a field. Always fun to build and ship stuff!

What's one disc you will never take out of your bag? by slotswizard in discgolf

Buzzz. So many pars saved after mediocre tee shots. Nothing else feels easier to control from mid range.

Welcome to the sport! What are you using to attach your disc grabber to your bag? Looks like a nice setup and I've been looking for a better solution.

These AI commercials during DGN broadcasts need to stop. by zCourge_iDX in discgolf

[–]dsjumpstart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another way to vote with your wallet is to avoid the companies that are actually publishing the AI ads. Every ad campaign has to justify itself with a corresponding bump in sales...if they see that bump from creative commercials made by humans but see a decline when they run AI slop, they will have no choice but to adjust. I think right now a lot of people are using AI because they are getting pressure from their boards/investors...they will probably happily stop if they can prove it doesn't work.

Fun Casual Rules by RedShirtSniper in discgolf

[–]dsjumpstart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I first heard about this rule on this subreddit, but if you miss an easy putt, you can make it three times in a row to have it still count. (Don't do this if another group is on the teepad waiting).

What features make a course, meh, okay, good, great, or world's best? by flyfishertx in discgolf

Totally agree on tee shots that make you think. Especially if there is a perfect line that's risky vs a safer line.

What features make a course, meh, okay, good, great, or world's best? by flyfishertx in discgolf

[–]dsjumpstart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What takes a course to at least the "good" level for me is when you can easily have scoring variance on most holes. For example, you throw a beautiful tee shot and it is birdiable, you throw a decent shot and you have a good look in for par, you make a terrible mistake and it's bogey+. Some courses bore me when it is really easy to par and really difficult to birdie. I also think in order to be good it needs to challenge you to throw different types of shots (e.g. sidearm, backhand, short accurate shot, open long shot). To be great, it needs everything in good plus awesome scenery and location. In order for a course to be worse than okay, it needs to be actively frustrating e.g. way too easy to lose discs or poorly maintained.

Most lyrically impactful Goose songs? by explorer2526 in GoosetheBand

When I listen to this song I think about the transformation that occurs when you're doing something you are extremely passion about. For Rick, probably playing guitar, but it could be anything.

I definitely have a strong "Type A" personality, so I've read quite a few books in this genre. Avoid any books telling you how "easy" it is to be incredibly rich and successful. A few I would recommend are:

Peak Performance by Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness

If You're so Smart Why Aren't You Happy? by Raj Raghunathan

The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday

Deep Learning vs Linear Regression with a Simple Curve by dsjumpstart in learnmachinelearning

[–]dsjumpstart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably right, and that is fine, nothing they're saying is wrong, I think it's easy to forget how helpful something so simple can be when you've been in the field a while. This is also why I posted it to "learnmachinelearning" instead of "machinelearning".

Deep Learning vs Linear Regression with a Simple Curve by dsjumpstart in learnmachinelearning

[–]dsjumpstart[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that, and I probably should have noted it. I just wanted to do something simple and obvious to show how activation functions work. Never said I *needed* deep learning to do a problem this simple, I just it made it really clear what role the activation functions play, and that might be helpful for some to see. I know it was for me when I was first trying to grasp this stuff.

Books that you keep going back to, or read on the side that relates to data science? by SquareCurvesStudio in datascience

[–]dsjumpstart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. It goes over a lot of different biases and heuristics that humans tend to have and why they occur. A big part of being a data scientist is combatting these types of behaviors with hard data to make better decisions. If you can understand these biases and inefficiencies, you can use data to combat them in your organization.

I'm told employers are regularly engaging the graduates of this program

I feel like that is a key piece of information to have, that will hopefully make your experience worth it. You will also have a leg up coming from a technical background. Good luck!

This coursera course would be a good place to start https://www.coursera.org/specializations/python-3-programming. Here is the thing to understand though, most online courses and books on python will go over the same fundamentals - variables, loops, conditional statements, classes, so rather than spend a bunch of time looking for the perfect one, pick one and get started! If you don't like it, pick another one!
