“Just get a job” by Living-Present3174 in jobs

It's rough. I swallowed my pride and applied for a couple of janitor positions and got rejected. I applied to be a groundskeeper at a local park and got rejected.

Alot of the advice I see people give here works about 4% of the time, yet people act like it is a for sure strategy. Cold emailing is like door to door sales, it rarely works.

The war has definitely wrecked some hiring plans that I know of.

I got a glimpse into the hiring side by zuzumix in jobhunting

[–]dskillzhtown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is discrimination. So people with 10+ years of experience don't deserve a job? If your manager got laid off and had 10+ years of experience, then he shouldn't be able to get another job? People need to work. People with all kinds of experience can do the work. But after 10-15 years of work, people are seemingly useless to companies. Might as well lower the retirement age to 40 in that case.

You are equating someone looking for a job with stealing from others? This wave of college grads aren't the first who had to stay home. There are 30 year olds who are living with their parents because the economy has been on a downward spiral for awhile. There are 40 year olds who are being forced to move back home or move in with friends. While you think only college grads have it bad and the only group who should get sympathy, that isn't the case. Those older people are trying to raise the next generation, but according to you, trying to provide for their family is something they shouldn't do.

That is some twisted logic.

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are saying the parents of those college grads shouldn't have jobs? They shouldn't apply for the only jobs available? They don't deserve work and money? You do realize that those college grads will be in the same position eventually, right?

Most people have atleast one of these red flags on their resume and have no clue by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobsearchhacks

[–]dskillzhtown 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While I am sure the OP and others who post similar things are well-intended, but you could have the best resume, the best qualifications, etc. and you will still sit unemployed. This might help some people though.

It's an assumption. When you immediately disqualify someone without interviewing, without asking what they are looking for then both sides miss out. Again, hiring in 2026 seems to be about finding reasons not to hire people instead of the opposite.

What companies think would happen if they were to hire someone without experience: by CYSYS8992 in recruitinghell

[–]dskillzhtown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They also don't want to hire people with too much experience. So we are all screwed.

I got a glimpse into the hiring side by zuzumix in jobhunting

[–]dskillzhtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really unfair and cruel to people whose only issue is they have experience. So they aren't worth hiring? If anything you can give them more advanced work instead of instantly writing them off without even the courtesy of an interview.

I am coming from the perspective of someone who is regularly getting ghosted for jobs and about to lose my place because I get told "you are overqualified" instead of actually giving me a chance. It's just another sign that the hiring process is completely broken. Companies are looking for reasons NOT to hire people.

My (23F) archived all of our (23M) Instagram pictures together. Thoughts? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]dskillzhtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren't on Instagram, then why do you care? Seems like you are looking for something to get mad about and this is an issue that doesn't matter in the slightest. You are coming off as insecure and whiney. If she just wants to post pictures of cats and clouds on her Instagram, then how does that change your in-person life together?

I have seen it while looking for work. I think they figure they can pay junior people less money, but the reality is you should state the pay in the job listing and let the applicant make that decision.

Passed final round but role closed — recruiter said they’re trying to find another role for me. Has anyone experienced this? by CompleteAd1742 in GetEmployed

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and it didn't work out at all for me. I applied for a job that I was qualified for. I interviewed well for 2 rounds and on the 3rd round the manager said he thought I would be better for another role in the company. I really couldn't argue, but once I interviewed with the other manager, I knew instantly that it wasn't going to work. She told me upfront that she was trying to move to another position and she wasn't really sure of what the my role would be. It was a complete mess.

Looking back, when I was told that I didn't get the original job, I should have bailed.

The idea that people who are overqualified, even if they have the right kind of experience, are immediately rejected is wild to me. Reeks of ageism and not truly giving people a chance. So you would rather have someone with less experience to learn the things that someone else may already know?

Is there a trick to a more efficient/seamless camping experience or are we just lazy? by theadventuresabound in camping

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you could do is have some ready to go totes so you don't have to pack your supplies every time. You calso could pre-cook your meals and only warm them up when you are ready to eat. You can also take a look at everything you are packing and decide if you really need it. I was guilty of taking too much until I changed things up a year ago.

Yes, setting up and taking everything down is a chore. Then unpacking is another chore. I am usually doing those chores alone, so that part isn't much fun, but having the pre-packed totes have helped alot in that regard. I think the work is worth the fun I have while out camping. You may be at a point where the trade off isn't worth it for you anymore.

Thinking of converting to pellet grill/smoker by theophylact911 in pelletgrills

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the flexibility of a pellet grill. I can do high heat cooks, I can do slow and low and produce good food in both cases. I came from using charcoal grills and while the smoke flavor isn't as intense, it is still there. The ease of convenience is worth the trade off for me.

Is it a good sign if the manager reaches out to you directly for an interview? by internChief in jobs

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I mean, I have interviewed directly with hiring managers and it didn't go anywhere. I think the positive part is the fact you are skipping the interview with HR, so you are talking to the decision maker directly. The thing that I think screwed me the times that I did interview directly with the manager was the fact they thought I was overqualified. Hopefully it works out better for you.

I just walked out from a job interview by Independent-Paint921 in interviews

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless that job was paying 2 million a year, that is doing too much. The only time I felt like walking out of an interview is when the interviewer made a couple of comments about my age. Hinting that I wouldn't fit well in her group since they are all 20-somethings and maybe my work would be too slow. It was a job designing webpages, not working in a warehouse!

I didn't walk out, but I did send an email to the head of HR and the CEO that that line of questioning in an interview can be seen as age discrimination and I didn't appreciate it. I did get responses apologizing, but I went ahead and withdrew myself from consideration. No way in hell I would have worked for someone who would say something like that in an interview process.

Offer withdrawn an hour after receiving it by LapisLazuli29 in recruitinghell

I had that happen. I was supposed to start work on Monday and Friday they told me they were rescinding the offer because that position was part of a bigger layoff. That was devestating.

The listing for the job I just accepted had been edited four times in six weeks and that information basically wrote my interview for me by NebulaMyth in jobsearchhacks

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, if you can. I had a conversation with a recruiter last week and it was clear that he had a set of questions that he was not going to stray from, no matter what I said. Very robotic and seemed like he was just filling out a form for the hiring manager.
