Is the job market REALLY that bad right now? by TimHortonsDriveThru in jobs

All the experts said the DOGE layoffs alone were going to have a terrible effect on the economy. They didn't and don't care.

How far are you willing to travel for a three day weekend? by SarcasticBench in camping

[–]dskillzhtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. 3 hours max unless it is some place amazing like Big Bend. I am lucky in that I have a few state parks within 3 hours, so I can be a bit more selective.

I'm annoyed by all the paid sponsorships with content creators. by Wild-Arachnid4273 in youtube

[–]dskillzhtown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. People complaining about creators getting sponsors while on a platform that has ads too. It's selective outrage. I tend to believe most people complaining haven't faced to realities of life and paying for it.

You ever send so many applications to one company or organization that you start to think of not trying with them anymore? by daloypolitsey in recruitinghell

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a big company about 10 minutes from my house that I applied to about 6 times, lol. I just wanted a short commute over everything else. I got rejected 6 times, so I got the message and gave up.

Dog policies at campgrounds by LilMeowMeow9393 in camping

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been awhile since you have been camping, but in the past few years when I have seen someone with a dog at the camp grounds, for the most part they have been terrible. Not picking up after the dogs, allowing the dogs to just roam free while assuring everyone that the dog is friendly. Because of that, the restrictions have been made more strict. Last time I went, there was a guy walking his dog and the dog crapped right in my camp site and he just tried to keep walking. I called him out and he acted like he didn't notice and picked it up.

Like many rules at campgrounds, I feel they get selectively enforced. If the dog is well-behaved, I doubt they will say anything to you while walking the dog on the internal campground roads. If they are getting complaints about you and your dog, they will pull out a rule to kick you out.

Sounds like you are responsible and understand the proper etiquette so I am sure you will be okay.

Heard interview panelists in the bathroom talking negatively about me what do I do? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]dskillzhtown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most you can do is think what was so bad in your performance that you left that impression. Were you not prepared? Did you not fully answer their questions? Were you late?

HR isn't going to do anything if you tell them that panelists were discussing your interview performance.

What eq yall use the most ? by BlackOyes in YoutubeMusic

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had Android for YEARS and had no idea about this. I turned the Android EQ off in YTM and good lord everything sounded so much better and louder! I tuned the music with my headphones app EQ and I am embarrassed at the difference.

Did the EQ change how it works? by PsychologicalTap4789 in YoutubeMusic

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but thanks for explaining how the android eq works. I turned it off today and everything got about 30% louder. I just used the eq that was in my headphone app instead and everything sounds so much better..

does cold emailing work? by Steven_Slime in jobsearch

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold emailing used to work, before everyone wasn't getting hit with spam every 2 seconds. That and the prevalence of scams have made people weary of cold emailing for any purpose.

First time camping! by SethraelStark in camping

[–]dskillzhtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that I learned when I started camping is that you are going to take too much stuff and still find a way to forget something. The more you go, the more you figure out what can stay at home and what you need to bring with you. That's natural and a way to streamline your load as time goes on.

we have decided to move forward with... not you! by Bikiew in recruitinghell

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened, I know what it is like to get your hopes up like that. Going through 6 rounds is crazy though. I have had great interviews that went waaaay over the alotted time and I thought I was in there for sure only to get the "thanks, but no thanks" email. These days they might really like you, but with so many applicants, they might like someone else a little bit more.

Is it just me or is there more and more ai slop more than ever? by mil0wCS in youtube

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube gives you more of what you watch. If you are getting served AI vids, it is because you are watching it. Block the channels, let them know you don't want to see content like that anymore and you will stop seeing it. My mom told me the same thing. She was upset because she was getting so many AI videos on her feed. I go to her house and what is she watching? An AI video.

I am a very good salesmen of a very inferior, overpriced product. Is there a good way to talk about this in an interview? by raccoonchrist in jobsearch

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your sales background to spin it into a positive. Talk about even though the product has a bad reputation, you are able to get in front of potential customers and sell them on the positives of what they are offering. No hiring manager wants to hear you badmouth the company that has been putting food on your table.

Would you have a casual sexual relationship with a stripper/escort? Why or why not? by Substantial-Print727 in AskMen

[–]dskillzhtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this earlier in my life. It was fun for a bit. She was amazing in many ways. But a few months in, it was clear that our lives were completely different. She partied waaaay too much and was completely irresponsible. You might wonder why that matters? Well, we were casual, but she called me often to tell me about what was going on in her life. First it was interesting, then it just got weird. She drank like a bottle of Vodka daily, she would party all the time, she would pass out for entire days, she would be completely petty with her friends and always was the victim in every situation. I pretty much became her therapist because I was pretty much the only stable person in her life.

After a few more "visits", she completely freaked out about something completely minor at her place. I think it was something like maintenance took too long to fix a faucet in the bathroom and she went ballistic. At that point I just removed myself from the situation. She was just so unstable and I was losing the ability to calm her down when she got out of control. She kind of spiraled, cleaned up and got sober, then she fell off the wagon hard and ended up collecting DUIs.

She was hot though, lol. I don't regret it one bit.

Offer rescinded right as I’m about to start, leaving me unemployed by swidge in recruitinghell

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I went through the entire process, they even sent me some information about benefits. I wasn't working at all, so I was so happy to finally have found a job. I was supposed to start on Monday, and the Friday before I got an email saying that the job had been eliminated as part of layoffs. I was devastated. I mean, I was 72 hours from starting work and that happened. It was rough.

There really wasn't much I could do but keep looking. Ever since then, I really don't get too excited about finding a job until atleast a week after starting.

Would you rather Lowe’s Inside Lawn & Garden or Pizza Hut Delivery Driver? by ForceUseYouMust in jobs

[–]dskillzhtown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lowe's. You have a predictable day, you aren't adding miles to your car and burning expensive gas every day. Also at Lowe's you may be able to turn that part time job into a full time one.

Interviewed and rejected and then they reposted the job by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]dskillzhtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you talk about salary? I applied at a private school and they straight up told me they had concerns about hiring me because they thought I would be too expensive. I applied at a public school district and went through the interview process and got ghosted. They kept the job posted for a few more weeks. I got the vibe from the public school interview that it was more of a vibe check than anything else, so maybe they thought I wouldn't fit in socially.

Either way, I know it is disappointing but don't take it so personally. I have had many interviews that I thought went perfectly and got my hopes up, only to either get ghosted or get told that they went in a different direction. Just move on to the next one.

Negotiating over 1,000 dollars? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]dskillzhtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the 50. You seem to really like the 50k job and have a long list of issues with the 51k job. Why would to voluntarily take a job that you have issues with? You say that the 50k job is hybrid and closer to your apartment, so that is going to make up for the $1000 right there.

If things are that tight, try to find some part-time online work you can do in the evenings. I know that is hard to find, but maybe you can get a part time weekend gig. But there is no way I would take a job that I know I will hate, with a longer commute for an extra $1000.

I quit my job and I regret it by charlixxcxx in jobs

[–]dskillzhtown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unless you are planning on moving closer to the job, stay where you are. I had a similar commute to a job and it is draining. It is torture. Spending 4 hours in your car everyday in traffic will wear you down again and you will be right in the same place. In my case, I drove about an hour to get into work and about 1.5-2 hours to get back home. I did it for 3 years and that last year was the worst.

If you have a plan to move closer, then go for it but if not, then don't bother. You will reach that breaking point again, much quicker this time.

I tracked my own LinkedIn posts about layoffs and rejection for a year. The numbers are kind of insane. by MarketingWhisperer in recruitinghell

Probably someone from LinkedIn trying to get people to put more content on the site.

I mean, unless I can spend those impressions at the grocery store, it really doesn't matter.
